Brambleberry Jam

I got a package in the mail from England on Tuesday. It was from a college classmate named Erin. We have recently become reconnected and started writing emails. In one email, she told me she was going to try to make brambleberry jam. (Brambleberries are like raspberries or blackberries.) She said she was going to send me some of the end product. And she did! I had some on bread last night, and I’ll have some for breakfast today. It’s good! I actually got two jars. The other one is brambleberry and apple. She said the brambleberries don’t have enough pectin to thicken the jam, so the apples help. I’ll open that jar when I’m finished with the first one.

Thanks, Erin!
So good...

Incessant Aftertaste

I can’t drink diet drinks. The artificial sweetener leaves a bitter-metallic taste in my mouth. If I overlook the aftertaste and drink a whole glassfull of diet drink anyway, I not only taste the aftertaste immediately, it haunts me sometimes until the next morning.

For a few days now, I have had the bitter-metallic taste in my mouth constantly. I haven’t had any artificial sweetener in large quantities lately. The only thing I’ve had in the last two weeks was Trident gum. I have decided to not chew that for a while to see if it helps. I also am wondering if my toothpaste has artificial sweetener. Sometimes they do. For now, I’m using a dry toothbrush.

I’m writing this down so if it continues for a long time I will have a record of when it started. Every year, I seem to have some strange sickness, some mysterious malady. It seems too soon for it to start already. In the past, the earliest a problem has ever presented itself is October. (That was the finger incident) The problems are usually resolved by spring. It’s gonna be a long, hard winter if I have to deal with this taste until spring.

Coffee, tea...sugar free?

Drywall

Yarrr! The drywall be goin’ up. (Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!)

There was time for two pieces of drywall after school yesterday. Now it’s plain to see just how crooked the walls and ceiling are. That’s my big pet peeve about the home improvement shows on TV… everything is always straight and level. They never run into ANY problems. …stupid TV people. I’m now sure that hanging the cabinets will involve shims. But that’s a few steps off anyway. The drywall needs to be finished, then mudded. Then I suppose the painting should be done before the cabinets are hung.

Here’s what’s done so far:
One piece almost covers it.

The part under the window is going to be a BEAR to work with. It’s solid cement.
It will take some cutting to cover the rest...

Crime Scene Investigation Part Three

The investigation continues. Part One. Part Two.

Some time on Saturday, the truck in front of my neighbor’s house was moved. It had been sitting in the exact same place for almost a month. Did they finally have a need for it, or was moving it part of the cover up? Then, while I was on the front porch cutting plywood, I saw it… red speckles of something on and beside my doorbell. Had someone come to my house looking for help and spattered blood on my doorpost? Were they trying to escape their murderer, but couldn’t get away? I don’t remember any doorbell rings lately. I will continue my observation…

THE EVIDENCE:

The Empty Truck Space.
You can see a small pile of debris that had collected by one of the back tires.
Exhibit Number Five

The Spattered Doorbell.
