Electrical Work Complete (for now)

The electrician was here yesterday doing the last part of his work. This was left over from some updates I had him do in June. I had gotten lots of new outlets and a new breaker box. But the meter hadn’t been permanently installed. That was the job of the electric company. But when they came, they said they wanted the meter outside. But that was the job of the electrician. The two groups of people didn’t get together until yesterday, when they installed an outside electric meter and ran new feed wires from the telephone pole to my house.

I’m glad that it’s done, but the problem is that it seems as if they were looking for the most public, most ugly place they could stick a meter on the side of my house. They didn’t install it behind the small tree I have growing next to the house. In fact, it looks as if they made an effort to place it out from behind the tree. The wires track all the way to the left, go into the meter, then track to the right again to disappear into my house. What were they thinking?

Could I hide it behind one of those giant butterflies you stick on the side of your house?

Tulips in the Mail

I got a box of tulip bulbs in the mail. It’s the perennial tulip collection I ordered on impulse earlier. When I ordered them, I was most excited about the single bulb of a giant tulip they would send. The tulip will be three feet tall they said.

When I got the box, I immediately looked for that bulb. I was thinking it would be HUGE. It would be the size of an apple or something! It would completely fill my hand! It doesn’t. It’s smaller than some regular-sized tulip’s bulbs I’ve seen. hmmm….

Tallest and biggest? We will see about that...

So of course I’m going to plant it anyway. I’m especially curious now. Will this tiny tulip bulb produce a gargantuan tulip? We’ll have to wait until “Mid to late spring”

Square Neckline

I got my hair cut yesterday. It was a new woman. I think her name was Jerline. No, that doesn’t look right. I’ll have to look again next time I’m there. I really wanted to remember her name so I could give her credit for giving me a good haircut. She didn’t rush at all. The result is a smooth cut… no corners, lines, or jaggedy places.

It’s so funny that in my last haircut post I should say something about no one ever asking me what shape I want on my neck. Yesterday as she was finishing, the barber said, “What shape do you want it in back?” I was so surprised I could hardly answer. I said that I didn’t have a preference. She asked if I just wanted her to follow the natural shape. I said yes. The result was something sort of squarish. Interesting…

Thank you, Jerline! If, indeed, that is your name.

Wall Cabinet Dry-Fit

The rails the cabinets hang on are up (Thank you, Denis). Last night we did a dry fit of the wall cabinets. It was so cool! You could actually tell they were wall cabinets and that that room would someday be a real kitchen.

Someday...someday...

There were two problems that need to be solved. The first problem: The rails had to be shimmed to make the corner cabinet work, since the corner was greater than ninety degrees. That has made the rest of the cabinets be off just a little. The worst place is between the corner cabinet and the cabinet next to it. There is a pretty big gap right now. More shims!!

This gap reminds me of someones teeth or something...

The second problem: When installing the outlet for the hood/microwave, I was guessing on it’s placement. I guessed wrong. The outlet should be to the right of the stud it’s hanging on. Instead, it’s centered on the hood cabinet. The exhaust duct from the hood fan will run right across it. I’ll have to move that outlet. It shouldn’t be too big of a job, but I can’t move forward with hanging the cabinets until that’s done.

Missed it by that much!

How to Handle Office Conflicts

I got this in an email forward yesterday. I like these stick figure animations. This particular one is by Rob Lewis. His website is called Stick Death. (just a warning… there is some swearing and violence on this site)

The stick figure animations I am more familiar with is a series called “Xiao Xiao”. They are quite amazing. They’re like little KungFu movies. The official site of these movies is www.xiaoxiaomovie.com, but it is very slow to load. Go here instead.
