New Link —>

Lloyd and Lauren have a website! It’s called… are you ready?… www.lloydandlauren.com. Isn’t that great? The domain name wasn’t taken. That’s so cool!

I’m proud to be their first commenter. Except I’m mad because they made me have a song stuck in my head… “Cricket crack corn and I don’t care”…

Their site joins my permanent list of links in the margins of this page.

Looking cold and slanty.

Wall Cabinets Assembled

I wanted to do a dry-fit before I started hanging cabinets on the wall, so I assembled all the wall cabinets yesterday. It took so long! All of this stuff takes WAY longer than I expect it to. I thought I’d get the cabinets assembled in an hour or two. It took SIX HOURS. Criminy!

Anyway, IKEA has an interesting system where you mount a rail to the wall and just hang all the cabinets on it. It seems like that wouldn’t be enough anchorage, but it must be okay, otherwise they would’ve been sued by now, right? So hanging the rail precisely will be very important I would guess. It’s my next step. Since I replaced the walls, they are smooth, so I don’t have any worries there. The one corner is not square. It’s larger than 90 degrees, so that’ll need some shimming. I’m glad it’s not LESS than 90 degrees. That would’ve been more difficult to fix.

Just barely fits...

It is actually starting to look like a kitchen.

Blacklight GloFish

The GloFish have settled in and are swimming all over the tank. I’m glad, because earlier they were only hovering in among the plants. Now I can see them!

Last night I got out my blacklights. The picture I posted earlier must’ve been of yellow GloFish. When I shined a blacklight on MY fish, they glowed bright PINK! It’s really awesome. It reminds me of walking into “Spencer’s Gifts” in the mall when I was a kid. You could go to the back and it was all fuzzy posters of skeletons and marijuana leaves and they were all lit with blacklights. I didn’t know what the heck all the skeletons and marijuana were about, but the blacklights were so cool.

And now I have fish that glow!

I think I need some specialized kind of camera to take these pics. All I get is blurs. But at least you can see them glowing.
One fish, two fish, red fish, GloFish.

I couldn’t resist but to take a picture of myself too. I think blacklights are hilarious fun. People’s eyes and teeth glow GREEN!
My, what big teeth you have.

Glo Fish

I went to the aquarium store to get some more minnows for my classroom tank. I use White Cloud Mountain Minnows because they are so tough. They don’t need a heater and they can take some neglect on holidays and such. While I was at the store, I saw that they had GloFish. I was so excited!

GloFish are zebra danios (a regular kind of tropical fish) that have been genetically modified. A gene for “glowing” is taken from a sea anemone and put into the fish. The result is a bright orangey-red fish that looks fluorescent in daylight, and “glows” in blacklight.

I only got nine of them because they are kind of expensive. They haven’t quite gotten used to my aquarium and spend a lot of their time in the plants. When they swim more freely, I’ll try to get a blacklight set up.

They are right of center. It looks like more than nine because of a slow shutter speed.
Shine little glofish, glimmer, glimmer...

Here’s an internet picture of GloFish under a blacklight

Friday the Thirteenth

I love fun dates on the calendar. I would not go so far as to say I’m into Numerology or anything, but number coincidences are fun. Palindrome dates, for instance. 7/01/07. Or, even more interesting 7/7/07. This coming July should be really fun.

So anway, today is Friday the Thirteenth. I had planned to wear a red shirt ,mostly because it was long-sleeved. Today is chilly. We’re having teacher meetings today, as we did yesterday and the day before, so I’m not wearing my usual “teacher clothes”. I think along with my red shirt I will wear my ring with the garnet in it, because it’s red like BLOOD!

I wish I had class today, because I always have fun talking about Friday the Thirteenth with the kids. Oh well, I’ll have to wait for the next interesting date and/or holiday… Halloween is coming!

Tupac Shakur died on Friday the Thirteenth
(…if he really IS dead. He might be living somewhere with Elvis.)
