Yesterday was our last day of school before Christmas. The kids were CRAZY, of course. I felt like I was riding a wave of chaos and trying not to get churned under. I think I came out okay. And no kids were harmed!
The kids bring in Christmas gifts every year. It’s very kind of them. I can’t believe how much of it is sweets though. Between yesterday and Wednesday, there was a huge pile of them. My plan has always been to just sample each thing and then throw it all away. If I kept it around, I would eat it all. Fortunately, I could send some of it with Denis this year. He took it to work where it all got eaten.
This is just from yesterday, since Wednesday’s haul has been consumed:
So I had to see who Bløf was, since it’s Erin’s favorite group. I did a google search and stumbled upon a really interesting link. You type in the name of a band or music artist (they even have classical), and it shows what other people who like that band also listen to. HERE is the page for Bløf.
If you want to type in your own name and see what else comes up, click HERE.
The site does movies, too! TRY IT.
In all the excitement, I forgot to find out what Bløf was all about, but here’s a picture of them:
First of all, I have to say: “Happy Birthday, Dolores Leeuwin! Yay!” Actually, I don’t know who she is, but a Google search shows that she was born December 20, 1970. Since I was on a roll with the birthday congrats, I had to find someone to wish a Happy Birthday to. This site says that “Dolores Leeuwin presenteert Het Klokhuis”. What language is that? Dutch?
Anyway, I planted a camellia bush two years ago because I wanted some late season bloom action in my garden. Camellias typically bloom in early or late winter. Last year the flower buds all froze off. This year, we’ve had a few warm spells in December. And the camellia is blooming!
It’s a good thing, too. I had slated this bush for destruction if it wasn’t ever going to bloom. My garden space is filling up. There’s no room for slackers!

First of all, I have to say: “Happy Birthday, Lloyd! Yay!” And thank you all for having birthdays in a row so I can more easily remember them. I went and had mine in the middle of nowhere. Sorry if that makes it hard to remember. I do, however keep to our family tendency of eights in our birthdate.
So I went to see Eragon. I saw the previews for it already this summer, so I had to get the book. It was a pretty good read. I like what the author did with magic.
I’ve seen quite a few movies for which I had previously read the books. They usually leave things out or change things a little when they convert a book to a movie. Saying that about this movie would be a huge understatement. This movie hardly even resembles the book. It’s like two different stories. I had trouble enjoying the movie because I was so distracted by the glaring changes. As always, the book is better than the movie. Way better. But the movie doesn’t even do the book justice. The omissions range from huge character changes, to whole chunks of things not being explained at all, to the very story line being altered. I was really disappointed.
I wonder what this movie would be like for someone who hadn’t read the book. Would it be fun to watch then? Would it be a good story?
Here is where the book has come to rest. This is my beside-the-bed reading pile. The red book underneath “Eragon” is the next book in the series. I haven’t read it yet.
First of all, I have to say: “Happy Birthday, Mom! Yay!”
My church had a “lessons and carols” service yesterday. I was able to sing in the choir because the director was having Saturday rehearsals for a short time (they’re normally on Sunday during Bible class). It was fun to sing again. It’s been a long time. I even got to sing a solo. It was a verse of “O Little Town of Bethlehem”. I really enjoyed that too. I would look into joining a bigger choir around here, but I’ve heard that their practice schedules are brutal. It has scared me away from that.
Here is my church all decorated for Christmas:
