What I Did on My Snow Day

First of all, I have to say:
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday dear me…
Happy Birthday to me!

Yesterday was like an early birthday present. I had fun being lazy at home. I also got some chores done.

I did the laundry:
An empty basket: its a good thing!

I cleaned the fish tank:
Can you find the glowfish?

And I went shopping:
The heater was on sale for $18... normally $45!
The new shower curtains are because for my up-coming visit from family, the soap pump is for the kitchen sink, the food is for a salad I made last night, the heater is also for my family’s visit, the tablecloth is because I still have poinsettias on my dining room table, the cat litter is for… well, you know, and the lighters are for all-purpose burning.

More Snow

The weather report said we were going to get some snow showers and a dusting of an inch or two. That’s exactly what happened. And school is cancelled. Cancelled? For an inch of snow? Yes.

YESSSS!

Ahh! We are all going to die!

This snow is really interesting. It looks like that flaky plastic stuff they use for fake snow.

Flaky. Faky?

Cooold!

We’re nearing record low temperatures here. Where is global warming when you need it? My specialty in the garden is growing things that are just borderline hardy here. The current temperature is eight degrees. Windchill (not that plants care about that) is minus five. My “borderline” plants are supposed to be hardy to teen temperatures, but not lower. Normally, that’s no problem. It doesn’t usually get much colder than 20 degrees. But now, I fear for their lives.

My newest prizes are a hardy citrus tree, and a plant called Lantana ‘Miss Huff’. (Hehe… I enjoy saying that I have Miss Huff in my back yard.) I really hope they don’t die. I was hoping the citrus would bloom this summer. And Miss Huff is covered with orange and yellow flowers all summer long – a true tropical plant.

Yesterday on the way home from school I stopped to get some mulch. I put the mulch around the roots of both plants. It was hard to do because the mulch had frozen solid and was coming out in chunks.

Superbowl Commercials

So I can’t let the Superbowl pass without (wait a minute… can I say “Superbowl”? Will the execs and their lawyers come after me? Silly Superbowl people…) I can’t let the “Big Game” pass without commenting on the commercials.

I went HERE to review the list. The Bud Light commercials as a group were the best in my opinion. The slap commercial was great! I also really liked the Emerald Nuts commercial with Robert Goulet.

Did there used to be a lot more good commercials, or am I just harder to please? It seems like the quality of the commercials has gone down the last couple of years. Last year, I could hardly remember them even just the next day. This year there were at least a couple of memorable ones.

I am sleepy around 3pm. Could Robert Goulet be messing with MY stuff?

Cabinet Handles Installed

The drawer pulls and cabinet handles went up yesterday. It was scary drilling holes. A fear became reality when two of my holes weren’t quite even. I don’t think you’d notice it if you were just looking at the kitchen, but I can see it, and it bothers me. But I can’t drill new holes and I can’t widen these. Both of those actions would only weaken the hold of the bolts.

It is a little strange seeing hardware on the drawers and cabinets. They’ve been empty for so long, the hardware looks weird. But I LOVE being able to open the drawers without sticking my fingertip behind the drawerfront. The drawer pulls ended up looking a little darker than I expected, but I think they look nice.

Not the crooked ones.

So easy to open now...

Left on the list: backsplash, under cabinet lighting, toekicks and coverpanels, and cabinet trim. Could the kitchen really be this close to being done?
