I left school quickly yesterday so I could get into the garden. The weather was beautiful, and it’s staying light out until after 6:00. Mostly I was just raking up brush piles and pulling out plant skeletons from last summer. But it was sooo nice. I love getting my hands in the dirt. It felt so good. I think it may be the source of all my powers.
I like to leave my teacher clothes on when I garden. It makes me feel like some English gentleman gardener to be out there in my shirt and tie. Maybe I’ll start dressing that way when I go out on the weekends too. And I could speak with a British accent when people walk by.
‘ello govnah!

My niece Anna sent me a digital flower yesterday. It was so sweet. She drew it on some flash software from the website of PBS Kids.
You can see it HERE.
I couldn’t resist and had to send something back to her.
You can see what I sent back HERE.
There is also an option to upload your picture to the gallery so others can see it. I didn’t upload mine, but Anna did. She’s famous!

Spring break is the time I have usually gone on trips to unusual destinations. In the past I’ve gone to Florida, Seattle, and even St. Maarten. This year, the destination is Amsterdam. Denis went on the trip to St. Maarten with me. It was nice to split expenses. He was interested in doing a European trip of some kind, so he went searching. Amsterdam was a less expensive destination, so that’s where we’re going.
I’m interested in checking out the flower bulbs of course. I think I’ll be a little early for tulips, but the hyacinths should be in full bloom. The Ten Boom house is in nearby Haarlem. I do the story of “The Hiding Place” every year in Religion class. And, of course, I’ll have to be on the lookout for Bløf.
I’ll be there the Tuesday after Easter and stay until Sunday. Woo hoo!

There seems to be a two day delay between weather in Nebraska and weather here. Sure enough, here it is: Spring! Beth said two days ago that Spring had arrived there. Tree buds let her know. We have buds here, too. My elderberry has been fun to watch because its dark-leaved buds have swollen over the last two weeks. They popped yesterday. My peach tree opened one bloom yesterday. It will soon be COVERED with flowers. (The Cherry Tree Festival in DC is this weekend I hear.) My Japanese Maple is fun in Spring because it has tiny red flowers.
But what announces Spring the best for me is bulbs. Hyacinths tell me. Winter is over.
We have another cold snap coming the end of this week, but it’ll only be a soft freeze if anything. I’m guessing after this, we’ll be done with freezes.
This is in front, right where I park.

The Butterfinger wrapper is a nice touch, isn’t it? I didn’t see it when I took the picture. Stupid litterers! If I ever saw one of them actually throwing something on the ground, I think I would tackle them. My yard is always full of trash because of them. Grrrr!
These are pretty flowers though, aren’t they?

I went into our Middle School office to drop off a neglected egg-baby yesterday and stumbled across something suspicious. Sitting up against the wall were stacks of large boxes with a drug name on the side. Are these drugs for use on the children? Is this being added to the drinking fountains for dispersal? Maybe the math teachers are in on it. They are always giving out candy to everybody in their classes. Perhaps it isn’t candy at all.
Even more disquieting is the possiblility that these drugs are for us teachers. There was some pizza in the teacher lunchroom yesterday that we were all gobbling down with gusto. In fact, there are often snacks available to us. Could they be spiked?
And what exactly is Januvia anyway? Is it named for Janus, the god of change and transition? If so, what kind of transition are we talking about here?
I will need to watch the children carefully, and perhaps myself even more carefully. Just what is going on here?
