Last night was our second game of Settlers of Catan so far. My first game was kind of bad, but this one went much better. I didn’t win, but I at least had some points when the game ended. This game lasted a little longer than our first one. We started at 8:30pm and were done by 11:30pm. Part of it was the addition of a sixth player. Part of it was a break to wait for Tara to go to sleep. Her sleep schedule has been a little off lately. She’s getting up too early in the morning, so they’re trying to have her nap a little less, but that makes her cranky at bedtime.
Harold was the winner last night. I at least could say I had built a metropolis. I also had the most soldiers. I was Defender of Catan three times!

Yesterday was a good day. I did some gardening in the morning, relaxed some, then went to my parents’ house in the evening. My dad was cooking on the grill. He did steaks. They were awesome!
After eating so much I was stuffed, we went and sat in their hot tub. Yes, I said hot tub. It was great. Tara joined us by sitting on the edge and then standing on one of the seats. I soaked for 45 minutes or so. It was very relaxing. Today I may do some more garden work. I need to work off some of those wonderful calories.
Check out our pile of Nebraska beef. Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!

Yesterday I went to a small cafe along the side of Interstate 80 at the Milford exit. I went with my dad, Beth, and Tara. The place was nothing to look at. It’s kind of small and crumbly. It sort of just looks like a gas station.
The food was great! I had a ham steak. It was so good and so salty. Mmmm… I couldn’t even finish it because it was so big. And the pie for dessert was awesome!
With my dinner, I could have a salad. The waitress said that for dressings, they had Ranch, Italian, Blue Cheese, and Dorothy. It definitely had to be Dorothy. Dorothy Lynch dressing is found only in and near Nebraska. It is a most delicious salad dressing. We always laughed that the first ingredient is tomato soup. But that never stopped us from eating it. It’s tasty.

Just as I must build up a “neck callous” in the fall because I wear collared shirts, so must I build a “toe callous” in the summer because I wear flip-flops. My toe callouses are coming along nicely. I’m still not completely used to my new shoes, though.
Yesterday I went to Lincoln with Lloyd to take his car to the shop. We burned some of the wait time by running errands. I slipped in my shoes three times. I may have callouses to protect my toes, but they won’t protect the rest of me if I wipe out.
I also need to remember to use sunscreen if I’m going to spend a lot of time outside. A wicked sunburn on the tops of your feet is not a happy thing.

I made it to Nebraska. My trip was quite pleasant.
I have become accustomed to staring at people because in big cities they don’t look back at you. But yesterday, lots of people were looking back. I would wait for them to avert their eyes so I could keep looking at them, but they didn’t, so we would establish eye contact. Then I would smile and they would smile. In the end, it was nice, because it was like everybody was my friend.
The plane rides were very nice. The landing and take-off in Milwaukee were really swervy, and that made me a little queasy, but Midwest Airlines amenities more than made up for that. The tiny plane from Baltimore to Milwaukee had regular plane seats, but the big plane from Milwaukee to Omaha had first-class-looking seats in the entire plane! The rumors are true! Midwest does have larger seats!
This is a picture of row 16:

What I hadn’t heard rumors about was the fact that Midwest Airlines serves warm chocolate chip cookies on every flight. How could I not have known this?
