These are by no means “after” pictures, and the countertops are still messy because “straighten the kitchen” was not on the list of things to do before I left, but here are some pictures of the kitchen:
Of course, you’ve seen the refrigerator already.

Note the raspberry liquour on the counter still. It’s good with crushed ice.
I forgot to turn on the microwave hood light to showcase its usefulness.

A plant that I’m quite proud of hangs on the “west” wall. It’s a staghorn fern.

I’ll be in Nebraksa for quite a while this time. Because of my long absence from Maryland, I have a few things I need to do. I’ve made a list. The HGT invites (pronounced: IN-vites) are notes I’ve left in the mailboxes of people who are potential participants in the Hamilton Hills Home and Garden Tour. They took most of yesterday morning to prepare and a chunk of afternoon to deliver. (Thanks for the help, Peggy!)
There are a few things left, but they don’t take too much time individually, so I’ll finish some this morning and some tomorrow morning.
And I can’t do a haircut without a picture of my head, so here it is – my latest haircut:
Because she worked there, my friend Jan brought my winnings over from the Martini Lutheran Preschool auction. I had said I would be winning a lot of children’s art. I did. I didn’t win the books I bid on, and I decided not to bid on the acupuncture session, so it was just a stack of “Eric Carle style art” for me. Maybe I shouldn’t say “just”. These are all mounted to pretty hefty pieces of foam board. I have no idea what I’ll do with them.

Bottom Row Titles: A Bunny, Hello Kitty, A Robin, My House
And I did win my favorite piece: My Sister
My new refrigerator came yesterday. I had ordered it on Thursday. I wasn’t originally looking for a side-by-side, but it’s a floor model with a tiny scratch, so I got a great deal! As an added bonus, I’ll have a crushed ice dispenser. Mmmm… crushed ice…
Before I decided to get this model, I did check it out. It’s a Whirlpool, and they have a low incidence of repair calls. The refrigerator side is big enough for a pizza box (always a concern). And the door shelf can hold two gallons of milk. Yay milk!
I hooked up the water line to the ice and water dispenser myself. I’m a plumbing genius!

Yesterday was my last day at school for a while. I had some paperwork to do, like last-minute survey things, emails, and pushing grades onto the internet. But my classroom was the pressing priority. The summer crews are already stripping and re-waxing the floors in the Middle School.
The most difficult part was my desk. It builds up various strata during the course of the year. As I strip it down to bare desktop, I strike pockets of papers and such that must be dealt with, so it takes a long time. This year’s theme was “borrowed items”. I returned a children’s book, an electric piano manual, a set of hymnals, a VHS tape of Oprah, and a foam ball. Some of these had only been with me a month. Others, all year.
But now my desk is clean, the walls are empty, and the aquarium is moved to the air conditioner cabinet so the crew can move its stand.
Good-bye, room. I’ll see you in a month or so.
