Last Morning in Nebraska

I slept GREAT last night, but I’m really sleepy this morning. I stayed up late the last couple of nights, and it’s starting to catch up with me. It’s kind of weird, because the first days I was here seemed to pass by slowly, but the last couple of weeks screamed by. And all of a sudden, I’m leaving. So the last couple of nights I’ve stayed up late to spend time with people before I leave. Note for next year: do that sooner in the visit.

I’m up by alarm this morning so I can get packed and stuff before leaving. My plane takes off around one, so I should be leaving for Omaha around ten. I’m dragging myself around folding clothes and stuff, but all I can think about is this:

Ahh...

And this:

AHHH!

Yikes! I mean, all I can think about is this:

Ahh...

Tim’s Baptism

Tim was baptized yesterday. I’m glad Harold and Beth could rush it so I could attend. It was very nice. Lots of family members were there. It was fun to see Aunt Bev, Aunt Gloria, Uncle Paul, and Aunt Linda. I tried to take a picture of the actual baptism, but there were lots of kids watching by invitation of the pastor, so I didn’t get a clear shot. Here’s my best one:

That's Tim behind that one boy's head.

After church, it was time for family pictures. We took a lot of them, but this was my favorite of Tara. Hehehe…

I smile with my tongue!

Cutting Garden

I’m finished with my Nebraska gardens at Lloyd and Lauren’s for this year. My challenge was to get more color in the cutting garden. This garden has something in bloom all season, but without enough flowers, the plot can look weedy. I’m sure I’ll add more blooms as I continue working with it.

My added color this year was from foliage. I already had a dark purple sedum growing in an old bucket. This year I added an Elderberry ‘Black Lace’ and a Switchgrass ‘Shenandoah’ to the garden. They both have reddish and purple leaves. They also are a little larger. They will add some needed color and structure to the plot. Fortunately, there don’t seem to be any pests in this garden. What I plant is not attacked by aphids or beetles. And there are no rabbits. Ehhxcellent…

Until next year, my dear cutting garden. Until next year…

In progress...

Bucket-o-sedum.

Window Sill Garden 2.0

When I was at Lloyd and Lauren’s for Christmas, I put together a little window sill garden. It was made from melamine mugs. The plant material was succulent cuttings we had grown over a couple of years. I threw them away. They were leggy. Leggy is not a good look for plants. In their place, I got a few haworthia plants. These are really tough and don’t need as much light as other succulents. And they don’t get leggy.

I cleaned out the old pots. I was surprised to find an ant colony in one of them, complete with ant babies. I killed them. Then I potted up the new plants. I left the jade plant, because it was a cutting from Lauren’s mom. Plants with sentimental value are often worth saving.

Behold the new arrangement:

I never met a haworthia I didn't like.

Shear Madness

I got my hair cut yesterday. I had to get it done before Sunday because Tim is getting baptized. I was getting kind of shaggy. The nearest walk-in place is called Shear Reflections, but I kept calling it Shear Madness because I think that’s a funnier name. It’s the place my dad goes for haircuts, but I didn’t get his same person.

I said what I normally say: “Number three on top, number one on the sides and back, and no corners.” The woman cutting my hair teased me a little about saying “no corners”, but she didn’t leave any. She did, however, miss a few stray hairs on top. They stick out above the others. I like them. I think they make me look dangerous.

My middle name is Danger.
