I like to read before I go to sleep. In the summertime, I read novels. During the school year, I only get about three pages read and then I fall asleep, so I read catalogs or gardening encyclopedias, or collections of short stories.
I am currently reading The Arabian Nights. I have an abridged version of Sir Richard Francis Burton’s translation. (The unabridged version fills several volumes and would be an excellent Christmas present for me.) It’s a little hard to read because it’s was translated in the late 1800′s. The language is very formal. It reminds me of the King James version of the Bible. But the stories are very interesting. Not at all like the Disney movies. In fact, the movie “Aladdin” contains almost nothing from the original story of Aladdin, except the main character’s name and the fact that there’s a genie in a lamp.
It’s a good night-time book because it’s fragmented into small stories that I can read in their entirety before I fall asleep. I don’t read much other than bedtime. There’s too much TV that needs watching.

Ha! You get about 2 more pages read than me before sleep takes over.
And this picture looks very Arabian Night-ish. It looks like a sleeping chamber rather than a bedroom. Do you sleep in a stocking cap? Are you reading by candlelight? Is your wall orange & black? Did you sponge it yourself? These are not rhetorical questions.
I didn’t use the flash on purpose, so the picture is yellowish and dim. I wanted it to look nighttime-ish.
I do not sleep in a stocking cap.
I read by lamplight… 60 watt GE “Reveal” bulb.
My wall is orange and brown and grey. It wasn’t just sponging. It was also cheesecloth-ing. I would not do it again. It was very tedious.
I cheeseclothed my bedroom & liked doing it! It was very artsy-ish. Like painting a masterpiece. But only 1/2 way down the wall is done like that, then a border, then solid color. I would definately do it again.
you`re lucky. If I read at all in the night it ends up being till 1 o`clock in the morning
And you make me want to read 1001 Arabian nights
Thank you very much for making Robin Williams sing in my head now. “Arabian Niiiiiiiiights…..”
I can’t get involved in a book or it consumes me, and I get even less done than usual. Plus, I don’t work very hard to find a good book. We have lots and lots to choose from, but…. eh.
KILL YOUR TV!
