Dang it, if Lauren didn’t post at night _I_ would have been the first to post a picture of a Christmas tree.
I’ve had the lights on my tree for a week. I was having trouble deciding where to go from there. I have a few different choices when it comes to ornaments. I decided to try something simple and just went with balls and bead garlands. It looks kind of bad.
Last year I had gotten the newest fad – LED Christmas lights. I decided to use them again this year, but they seem too big or something. Or maybe it’s that I got multi-color. I just don’t like it. But I don’t want to go without putting stuff on the tree. Maybe I’ll strip it all down over the weekend or something. Or maybe I’ll just leave it. Or set it on fire.
Since my bathroom orchid last bloomed, I haven’t cut off the flower stems. Previously, they had died on their own so I cut them off. This time they stayed around, so I left them. About this time last year the bloom spikes started growing. I had flowers by the end of January. I have bloom spikes again! One is coming up from the bottom, and two are sprouting from last year’s stems.
Now I’m curious to see: Since they’re sprouting from last year’s stems, will I have flowers sooner? I’m guessing I may have some Christmas orchids this year. Maybe the flowers will distract everyone from the thick layer of dust on the leaves and the disorganized mess on the shelf the pot sits on.

As December approaches, the days get shorter and shorter. Each day I after school I have a voice in my head that screams, “Get home before it’s dark!” By the end of the month, the urge to leave begins before the last class is over. Some days I can beat the dark, but other days I can’t.
Today our midterm grades are due. I had forgotten, so I stayed after school to finish up some grading yesterday. That meant I was there until way after the sun had set. The voice in my head had quieted by the time I left, because the race was already lost.
It’s less than a month now until the Winter Solstice and the Longest Night. I’ll be glad when we pass the hump. If only I could hibernate until Spring. Wait… I already sleep a lot. Maybe no one would notice if I just kicked it up a notch…
I went to Marshall’s department store yesterday evening. I’ve been looking for a winter coat. I want to get a long one. The trouble is, the long coats I’m finding all look the same to me. They’re all just tubes of cloth. I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for, and I may never find it, but I now know that it’s not at Marshall’s.
While I was there, I browsed through the housewares department. I got all the way to the end without picking anything up. But the end is where the food is. And they had a huge display of coffee. And in that display, they had Godiva Vanilla Hazelnut coffee. Ehhxcellent! I had gotten some of this on sale back in September. It was very tasty. When I went back to the Godiva store to get a new bag, they only had Vanilla Creme. It’s not quite the same, and not quite as tasty.
By definition, these bags of coffee from Marshall’s are old. That’s what Marshall’s does: sells old, discontinued, or factory rejected items. But I didn’t care. I got two. I would have gotten more, but it seemed a little weird. But now I’m thinking I should have gotten all they had. Is this a discontinued flavor? Will I never be able to taste its coffeelicious sweetness again?

We got home at 2am yesterday morning. After sleeping, I celebrated being home yesterday by playing my beloved and cursed Xbox game. Then I made a short trip to school. A visit to Home Depot for trash bags and Kaboom, and I was home again. I tried to put up some Christmas decorations, but was out of energy by 8:30pm. I was ready for bed by 9. Beautiful day!
Apparently, there was a freeze while I was gone. The Gingko tree has dropped all its leaves, and the tropical plants are all wilted. I went out to put some birdseed in my birdfeeder and almost jumped out of my skin. It looked like a person was standing next to the bird feeder. It was a banana tree. Whew! It looks more like a cloaked figure to me.
