Halloween Candy – Gone

I’ve eaten the last of my Halloween candy. My Halloween candy was Nerds this year. I like them because at some point, my tongue starts burning from the chemical they use to make them sour. Then I stop eating them. With chocolate candies, there’s no stopping. I got Snickers for Halloween one year and they were gone by the second day after.

Anyway, I’ve been eating the Nerds while I play Xbox. play a little… eat some candy… play a little… eat some candy… It makes an already enjoyable experience even better!

After consuming the last box, I noticed I had amassed quite a pile of empty boxes. If I were an artist, maybe I could make some kind of mixed media statement with them. Since I’m not, I’ll just be throwing them away.

Good-bye, artificially flavored goodness.

A New Inspiration?

Carol brought in a bunch of old sewing patterns and left them in the Teachers’ Room. Someone had pulled out one of the kits and left it for all to see. When I saw the picture on it, I knew I must take it home and keep it for the day when I tire of the Alton Brown look. While I don’t think I’ll go for the long hair in back, the front is perfect!

Vintage Eighties! Notice the beauty mark.

Hehehehe…

Candy from the Future

While I was out this weekend, I stopped at Target to get a few essentials. While I was checking out, I noticed a new product in the gum and mints section. It was from the makers of IceBreakers. It was called PACS. There isn’t much more information on the package… just that it was orange flavored and it was sugar free and sweetened with Xylitol. Still wanting to conduct some experiments with sugar alcohols, I got it.

The “mints” are little pouches of powder. The pouch is made of orange-flavored material that dissolves in your mouth. The powder inside is cool and sweet and why these things would be called mints. They are very peculiar. I don’t know if they’ll catch on or not. They taste okay, but the dissolvable pouch material is a little gummy. Plus they look like little bags of cocaine.

The most interesting thing is that these have not been released into the general market yet. There is an add for them on the Hershey website, but it says “PREPARE for an amazing rush” (emphasis mine). And other things I’m reading say these “PACS” aren’t supposed to be released until later this year… perhaps December 7. One of the more interesting links I discovered was the webpage of the guy who designed the packaging.

So if these haven’t been released, how does the Target in White Marsh have them for sale? Curious…

Small packages of white powder. Did anyone even consider how much these look like cocaine?

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

I did go out looking for warm socks yesterday. I ended up getting some from a sporting goods store in the hunting section. They are Wigwam brand. They are called “40 Below”, so I’m expecting they’re pretty warm. When I googled “warmest socks”, these were the third link down, so they must be pretty good, eh? At least some website called Freshpair thinks so.
(Heh. Their slogan is “Buy underwear in your underwear.”)

But the real story from yesterday is my continuing encounters with suspicious persons. I saw the Japanese Navy again. This time in White Marsh.
But even more intriguing is what happened at lunch:

I stopped at a burger place called “Five Guys” to get a cholesterol-filled, greasy, juicy cheeseburger. While I was waiting for my order, a couple passed by me. In the crush of the crowd, they were quite close, and I could hear them speaking in German! I took a seat by a window so I could keep an eye on them.

Here is my surveillance photo:
Eating McDonald's outside of a GOOD burger joint? Very suspicious.

No Sock-cess

I started yesterday with choir practice at church. We practice in an unheated schoolroom with tile-over-cement floors. By the end of practice, my feet were freezing. I decided to look for very warm socks yesterday. I went to the mall in Towson. I needed more flax meal, and the treehugger grocery store is right next door. But since I forgot my camera, I missed three awesome pictures.

The first picture I missed was a hood with a zipper. This wasn’t like the ones that zip open so they lay flat against your back. This hood had a zipper that went from the forehead to the neck, but it didn’t open completely. There was a panel of fabric inside the zipped area. When you unzipped the hood, it expanded! A bigger hood for a bigger head?

The second picture I missed was three asian guys dressed in full navy gear, little white hats and all. I wasn’t close enough to be sure, but I don’t think they were from the US Navy. Does Japan’s navy wear the hats?

The third picture I missed was a mannequin whose pants were pulled down. I think they were trying to make it look like the saggy style, but all it looked like was that someone pantsed a mannequin. Hehe…

I also encountered a camel hair sportcoat, and I wondered: Is it really made of camel hair? From a camel? It was really soft. Are camels soft?

In spite of a long and thorough search, I did not find any warm socks. There was a wool blend sock in Macy’s, but the percentage of wool wasn’t very high. Maybe I’ll look in a store that sells hunting and camping gear. Maybe I’ll do that today.

Until then, my feet will just be cold.
It's been too long since I posted a picture of my feet.
