Happy Leap Day!
I had lunch duty yesterday. Another student was having problems with the food machines: they wouldn’t take her dime. I saw by it’s color that it was a silver dime. Another silver coin?!? I had to have it, but I didn’t have a dime, so I traded her for a quarter. I think I came out ahead on this trade. According to THIS site, as of yesterday, the silver in this dime is worth $1.42.
This particular dime is from 1964. Using the Internets, I went looking for things that happened on February 29, 1964. Yes, there was a February 29 in 1964. Isn’t that amazing?
Here’s the fun link for today: It’s Charles Schulz’s annotations to The Complete Peanuts 1963-1964. You have to scroll down about halfway to read the entry for February 29, 1964. It’s about VanGough and how his work would never be found in a doghouse. Too bad the comic itself isn’t included. Check out the rest of the site, too. It’s run by a Star Trek fan! Yay, Star Trek!

I left my phone at home yesterday. Every time I put my hand in my pocket or touched my pocket from the outside I would think: “Oh no! Where’s my phone?!? Oh… yeah… I left it at home.” This was my first day without a phone in YEARS. It was weird.
It wouldn’t have been such a big deal, but my handbell group was supposed to play in church last night and one of them was sick. I needed to call for substitutes. I had left a message with one of them to call me, but my phone was at home. So I went home to get it. Once I got there, I listened to my message, then started to call other people… and realized I left all the handbell peoples’ phone numbers at school. Arrgh! So I went back to school to get them.
None of the subs worked out, so we ended up cancelling. And in the meantime, I had used all my between-school-and-church time driving around and talking on the phone. Dang.
Here’s where my stinkin’ phone was all day:

For overwintering purposes, I’ve brought my pineapple plants inside. I’ve put them in the sunniest window in the house. They look like they’ve been doing okay. The one that bloomed this past summer is looking a little messy because it’s covered with side-shoots. I may re-pot some of the shoots. Or I may just kill them because, you know, that’s what I do.
The one that didn’t bloom this past summer has started to bloom now. Yikes! Not yet! Was it triggered by the lengthening of days? …by age? …by warmth from the heater? It’s a sunny window, but it’s nothing like full sun exposure outside. I’m afraid the blooms will come out all spindly, fall over, and die. Dang it! If the blooms could have waited another six weeks, I could have put the plant outside. What am I going to do now?

After putting my dresser coins in a bag along with coins from various other locations around the house, I had quite a collection. I planned to take it to my bank because they have recently put a change sorter in the lobby for members to use. They only charge 3%. That’s much better than the Coinstar machines I’ve seen in the grocery stores. They charge 8.9%! Criminy! Why doesn’t anybody do this for free?
Anyway, I left school in a hurry yesterday to get to the bank before it closed. I had kind of a fun time running my coins through. The biggest problem with my bank’s machine is that there is no place to retrieve non-change items that get mixed in with your coins. I saw a button swirling around inside the counter, but it was behind glass. And when the counter was finished, the button vanished. What other treasures might I have lost?
I was shocked with the final total. It was a nice chunk of change! It will all go into the cat fund.

For a little while now, I’ve been searching for a cat breeder to supply me with Ned II. Yesterday, I met them. John and Carole live about thirty minutes north of here and raise hairless cats in their home. Their cattery is called Destyny Sphynx. The extra “y” in “destiny” is for SphYnx. I didn’t get that until this morning.
Anyway, I went for a visit yesterday. Their cats are awesome. They have a litter right now, but the kittens are all spoken for. I did get to hold one. It was small, wrinkly, and precious. They have a female they just sent to another cattery to be bred. Her name is Skin Amon And Spice (”Cinnamon” and Spice — get it?), but they call her Chelsea. Chelsea will give birth at the end of April, and my kitten will be ready to go home at the end of July. I couldn’t see Chelsea, because she was still in Texas, but all the other cats at their home were beautiful. I also saw a picture of the male she was bred with. He looked just like the cat we had all through my childhood, but with no hair… a hairless Sam.
Since I couldn’t take a picture of Chelsea, I lifted one from their website. She looks like Pfennig with no hair!
Here is my baby’s momma:

And here’s Pfennig:
