Like Clockwork

My phalaenopsis (moth orchid) is blooming. Now that I have a memory archive, I can see that it bloomed this time last year, too. This would be a good Valentine’s Day flower to have, if you cared about such things. You’d always have a nice spray of orchids for cutting by February 14. Or you could just forget that nonsense, and have flowers until June.

Maybe the phalaenopsis blooming will encourage the vandas to grow big and strong. Or maybe the phalaenopsis will feel threatened and speak discouragingly to the vandas so they give up and die. I hope I don’t have a petty phalaenopsis.

My moth-like valentine.

IN OTHER NEWS: We have a two hour late start today because it’s raining. Yay for Baltimore panic!

    Boo for Montgomery county panic…

Well, you know that your plants are emitting chemicals. That’s a very interesting idea that you may have a petty phalaenopsis. (I had to copy & paste to be sure I spelled that one right.) Have you ever read The Botany of Desire? I think you might like it.

I need a pronunciation guide for phalaenopsis, please. I gotta say, it sound more like a diagnosis than a pretty flower. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Smith. There was nothing we could do – his phalaenopsis was just too advanced.”

Two hour late start because of rain?! Oh, please. Northeast Nebraska schools endured swirling snow with 40-mile an hour winds and still decided to have a late start, rather than close school. Buck up, Baltimore!

  5. Peggy says:

Oh and Congratulations on the arrival of your phalaenopsis!

I thought you used Dove soap to prevent that …

You guys are just great to “listen” to……

    Oh, pardone, “Guys & Gals”……Sorry….
