I’m once again requiring the seventh graders to do something for Lent. They can give something up, or they can take on a new good habit. Class yesterday was kind of hectic because I forgot to introduce the idea to them earlier. But I think they made some good choices about what they would do (or not do).
I always do something too, so I can talk about it in class. Last year’s idea to excercise every day was a big flop, so I had to choose more carefully this year. I’ve decided to go with a repeat from a previous year: I’m going to have at least one raw fruit or vegetable every day. It might sound easy, but for me, it’s harder than it sounds. I’m the king of processed foods. Plus, I’m really lazy so I never want to go to the grocery store for fresh produce. It’s not that I don’t like eating fruit and vegetables, it’s just that they’re so much work! It’s much easier to fix a bowl of cereal or open a Pop Tart. And Pop Tarts never go bad. Believe me, I know.
Thankfully, I have some fruit on hand today, so I won’t have to go to the grocery store before school. Whew!

Can’t you just eat pineapples and orchids? I thought you’d be the king of vegetable matter.
Yay for not doing chores this year … it always made me feel a little guilty … BTW: Did it instill better chore habits, please say no! I’ve never really had a good relationship with fruit, unless it’s in a pop-tart … and cherry only, frosted, crust removed, mmmmmmm!
Apples are the way to go. Those other fruits go bad way too fast.
Was there a cartoon at that address when you put it there? Now it’s a letter from Gary Larson that I disagree with. I would think having your work posted on websites all over the internet would make you wildly popular and more people would buy your stuff. Doesn’t that sound logical?
I would think so, but I guess he doesn’t feel that way. But no, there was never a cartoon there, because I couldn’t find one. That letter explaining why I couldn’t find one was the best that I could do.
My Lenten Sacrifice? I’ve decided to give up posting comments to Bradaptation.
Oops – I guess I just messed THAT one up! I’ll have to pick something else. Trust me, it won’t have anything to do with fruit!
but maybe something with fermented fruit?
Try those little baggies of carrots. Or if you like celery, it stays a while cut up in water.
