Peggy Update 2

Hey Brad,

I tried to send more pictures, but it takes FOREVER to load them, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to send any more, what with my limited internet time and all. I will try one more time later.

I hope to send a few pictures of the Vatican, and the expensive part of Rome we strolled thru. There were Versace, Armani, Gucci, & Prada stores. Oh lala! The fountain picture was a famous fountain—Trevi Fountain—it was in an American movie too. (I wonder if Peggy is referring to Lizzie McGuire or Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.)

I’m up in Northern Italy now—right outside of Milano—fashion capitol of the world! We took the train up here. Tomorrow we’re going to Venice.

The relatives here treat us like royalty. You would love it! You would get all the attention! I’ll tell you of all our special treatment later or when I get home.

Today we hunted for Uncle Vinny. Uncle Vinny died in 1918. What would a trip to Italy be without a visit to the cemetery? The story is my father in laws uncle & his father were in WWI together. The older brother (Vinny) was killed right at the end of the war. He was buried up north because that’s where he died. His family couldn’t even come up here because it was the end of the war & they were poor. My father in law wanted to locate his grave. We found the old cemetery & the man said there was no record of Vincencio Di Basilio in the cemetery, but you could check the back of the cemetery where some soldiers were buried. Well, he was there! My father in law was very happy. We’re pretty sure we are the 1st of his family to visit his grave, ever. I said, Hey lets remove it–it’s now just a box of bones. No one even knows he’s here. But my father in law had to ask how to go about that and of course there’s alot of red tape.

Gotta go,
Peggy

Peggy is speaking Italian when she says 'Milano' instead of 'Milan'. Maybe she's going native.

She’s at the top of the boot! I hope she brings back some fashion for us. Or some Milano cookies.

  2. Kim says:

Yay! Another kibble from Peggy! Happy Day!

  3. Deanne says:

What a great trip! You guys are awesome friends to push her into doing it!

  4. Michele says:

I almost cried when I read that you found the grave of Uncle Vinny. Did your father-in-law cry? That must have been emotional.

Should I not be asking Peggy questions? Can she even read this stuff? Oh well – something for her to tell us when she comes home.

  5. Beth says:

    I miss you , Peggy!!

…and you think so far this is a cool trip? Wait until she reports on Venezia! That is hands down my own personal favorite part of Italia – gondolas, Bridge of Sighs, fireworks at night, St. Mark’s square and church…..but in the summer, lots of migrating swallows, too, that sound like noisy children ringing bells or something outside your hotel windows all night to keep you from sleeping….and then follow you migrating southward to Rome, making noise all the way….ten glorious days of no sleep. I’d go back in a heartbeat, though! [Hope Peg and Joe got to miss out on the migrating noise makers.]
