That Small Town Feeling

Yesterday morning when I went downstairs to leave, I noticed I had left the front door unlocked all night. I had been working in the garden the day before. I often leave the front and back doors unlocked when I’m outside, because I never know which door I might need to go in. I guess I came in the back door and locked it, but left the front door unlocked.

I’m not dead! Nobody came in to my house. (Unless they did, and they’re hiding behind the shower curtain, waiting to surprise me.) Who would’ve thought I could leave the front door unlocked in Baltimore City? Will I do it again, but on purpose this time? Nah. I don’t own a gun yet.

Deadbolt latch pointing left means it's open.

I’m glad you weren’t hurt or robbed. Maybe your influence is starting to spread and people are turning from their sinful ways to the path of light.

I think all would-be robbers know what you can do with a shovel and they fear for their lives.

    What’s a lock?

Silly Brad—burglars & murderers never use the front door, but giant elves, the Burger King King & Richard Simmons do.

While we are technically County residents, our neck o’ the woods does hit the papers on occasion (under robberies, drug busts, murders, and the like). Every so often I, too, get up to find that neither Thurman nor I have double checked the other and the door’s been unlocked all night. We slept fine nonetheless – trained killer attack dog and cat on duty 24/7…flood lights in back yard…porch lights on at dust and off at dawn…and the knowledge that the only thing we’ve ever had taken was our lawn mower from our shed – in broad daylight while I was home – so thinking locked doors offer much protection from desperate criminals seems a bit silly when I stop to think of it. Maybe the Boogie Man in the bedroom closet helps dissuade them too – I dunno…
