Meet Max

I went to the Destyny Sphynx Cattery yesterday to meet my new kitten. I could choose from three males. You can see them on their “current litter” page HERE. They are called “Black and White Boy”, “Black Boy”, and “Yellow Collar Boy”. In the picture below, they are the one with the dark face that’s looking up, the black and white one that’s looking down, and the pinkish one to the right of the black and white.

Decisions, decisions...

It was difficult to decide. The pink one was the most snuggly, but he looked too much like Ned. I wanted a clean start. The darkface kitten was really sweet, but they said the black and white was the most adventuresome. He has been the first to do lots of things… the first to leave the box, the first to eat solid food, etc. He’s also a big guy. I chose him.

Meet Max:
Max.

His coloring is really fun. The black I’ve seen on other hairless cats almost looks blue. Will his look like that? He also has tabby markings on his knees. The stripes look like his cousin Bobbie’s, don’t they?
Tiger stripes: Grrreat!

He was kind of tired of being held by the time these pictures were taken. He didn’t want to look at the camera. But at least you can see his color pattern a little here.
They're so wrinkly when they're kittens!

I also really like that he has scruffy eyebrows and whiskers. I don’t know if they’ll drop off as he grows, but for now, they’re hilarious!
I'm Andy Rooney. You know what I really hate?

I’m sooo excited! But because of scheduling difficulties, I won’t be back for another visit until June 15. I’ll be bringing him home on July 13. Yay!

Sick Day

I spent all day yesterday being sick. I kept thinking that if I just slept a little more, I wouldn’t be sick any more. I watched TV and slept. I played Xbox and slept. I was still sick. Dang. Last night during the night my fever broke. It was like a switch was flipped. I was tossing and turning and sweating… then suddenly, I was sleeping peacefully. Ahh…

I only ventured outside once yesterday to get the mail. It was so nice outside, I went to the back yard to walk the garden in my slippers and bathrobe and “sick hair”. I saw two cheerful things:

My strawberries are turning red. I will wait to eat them until my sense of taste has recovered.
...so juicy sweeet!

And this mystery songbird. It was singing like crazy. And the song varied as it went along. It was very pleasant. I went looking for a match on The Internets, but I haven’t found one.
What is it?

Field Trip

Yesterday was our field trip to see Prince Caspian. It went pretty well. I still am dumbfounded that the AMC Loews Theater people wouldn’t give us a private showing. We filled up all but thirty seats in the small theater the movie was shown in. One older couple did see us going in and asked me where we were going. They had planned to go to the same show, but changed their plans when they saw us. But alas, five other poor souls did come in to our theater. I was sad for them.

The movie watching was kind of strange. The kids were acting like a movie is an interactive experience. They were talking at the screen, making wolf whistles, and clapping. I hated it. I don’t like to be reminded I’m in a theater. I want to be immersed in the movie. All that noise brings me back to myself. I have stopped going to one theater in the area because the crowds did that consistently whenever I was there.

Is this the future of movies? People talking and hooting and hollering at the screen? Or were the kids just stirred up because we all knew each other (except those five unfortunates)?

In May?

This seems weird: About a week ago, I started having small headaches and a stuffy nose. Then my throat seemed a little sore. I thought it was stress, since things have been a little tense at school. Then two days ago, I felt a full-blown sore throat coming on. Yesterday’s symptoms and last night’s sweat confirm it… I’m sick. But in May? I don’t think I’ve ever been sick in May. Fascinating.

Feeling the on-coming sore throat Wednesday, I had stopped at the drug store to get some cough drops. I have Halls, which are like candy because they taste so good, and Cepacol, which are like medicine, but taste surprisingly better than they used to. I of course liked the Halls, because of the aforementioned candy-like quality. The Cepacol was really strange. It completely numbed my mouth. My tongue and cheeks felt like I had been at the dentist. Really interesting. It didn’t taste bad, but the numbing was disturbing. It almost seemed like practical joke candy. I’ll stick with the Halls.

Today we’re taking the entire Middle School to see Prince Caspian. I’m glad, because it will take less energy to accomplish this than it would to teach lessons.

Mouth-numbing power, or tasty deliciousness?

Plant Swap

Last night was the regular meeting of the Hamilton Hills Neighborhood Association. I usually don’t go because it’s the same night as the Council meeting at my church, and Church Council trumps neighborhood meeting. But once a year I skip Council so I can make an announcement about our neighborhood Home and Garden Tour. As an added bonus, we conducted a little plant and seed swap.

Our Home and Garden Tour is expanded this year. It will encompass several neighborhoods in the area. I’m involved in the planning, but I’m not in charge. The office of the Neighborhoods of Greater Lauraville is running the show. It should be fun to visit houses in a wider area. I’ve chosen not to have my garden be on the tour so I can help others that day. It’s Sunday, June 8, from 1pm – 5pm.

The plant swap was a happy success. I brought a bunch of extra plants that have been sitting in my garden since spring started. Several other people brought plants as well. It was a nice assortment. And the best thing was that all the plants were taken! I was a little worried that I would be going home with a whole bunch of plants that I would have to euthanize. Instead, I went home with only a few leftover tomato seedlings. I also had a lambs ear, which I intentionally grabbed because I like petting them.

Free plants!

P.S. Keep my dad in your prayers. He gets his second new hip today. Yay for bionics!
