New Pew

I never finished cleaning my basement. I keep interrupting myself with other projects. I feel like I have Project-ADD or something. I keep jumping from one to the next, never finishing any of them.

Today’s distraction was the Pew Project. About a year ago, a local church was discarding some pews and I got one. It was super cool, but WAY too long. Yesterday I cut it down to size.

New length: about five feet.

Getting the cut straight and fitting the end piece back on correctly was a little tricky. It involved a trip to Home Depot, but I finally got it. The final securements will be done today. I had to stain the cut part to match the existing color, and it takes 24 hours to dry.

Cost of pew: $0. Cost of materials: $35.70. Really cool furniture: Priceless.

It turned out really cool, Brad! Where are you going to put it?

Either you got a little sawdust on your camera lens…or between pictures one and two my contacts seriously gave way… :D

    Awesome pew. Priceless.

I don’t know where those specks came from. I took several “after” pictures and they were all spotted. Later in the day I took some other pictures, and there were no spots. Are those images of ghosts? Is my basement haunted?

Wow! Wow!! You really did it! You said that you would do it and you did it!!

So what did you buy at Home Depot? A new saw?

I got an attachment for my drill called a “rasp”. I needed it to shape a hole better for the new pieces of pew to fit together. I also got wood screws, stain, polyurethane, and some foam brushes. The stain was the most expensive item at $12.

It looks awesome! I wonder if you will fall asleep everytime you sit in it (wink, wink!)

I LOVE it!!! I think you should go to churches everywhere & refashion the pews … think of the crowds they would draw … VERY well done!!

And I would certainly have much more success with my projects, if my projects were as fun as yours …

You should be able to store piles and piles of papers on that bench.

  8. Lloyd says:

I think you missed a great opportunity here. You could have cut the bench twice, but closer to the ends. Then you could have a leaf for your bench. When extra people were coming over, or when you wanted to have a church service you could just slip the leaf in.

Hey! Where’d the second picture go? Did I dream it?
