First Fall

Yesterday I finally worked on the pond again. It was time to get the waterfall running and see if it cascaded in a satisfactory way. It was kind of exciting to take the pump out and hook it up. It’s a pretty serious piece of machinery. It was a little hard to hide the hose though, because it’s reinforced to prevent kinking. The reinforcement makes it less bendable. I had to use a rock to keep it under water.

The water doesn’t quite fall the way I expected. I’m a little disappointed. I’m letting it run so I can see if I don’t like it because it doesn’t look like I thought it would, or if I don’t like it because I don’t like it. I may need to pull the stones apart and work on them some more.

My neighbor came over and offered some rocks he found in his yard. They’re huge. I’ll be excited to get them to my pond site and try them in various places. I was already showered by the time he offered them, so I’ll wait until this afternoon or tomorrow to get them. All he wanted in return was some grass. I have buffalo grass in my yard (which I believe is the most evil plant ever). He’s trying to establish something indestructible in his back yard so his dogs could run on it. He wants some rooted clumps to plant there. I wish he’d take it all.

The red stuff is lava rocks. They help filter the water.

Say it ain’t so! Did you type “all he wants in exchange [for his rocks]is some grass”?! If this doesn’t sound like an illegal exchange, I don’t know what does – is it too late to talk you out of it, Brad?! The penalties in our country are not so severe as, say, the middle east, but swapping “weed” for “rocks” – for one thing, I doubt they are of equal value unless you DO give him your entire back yard…for another, DON’T DO IT, BRAD! There are programs for folks in trouble like yourself – we’ll all go with you if you want! Just STOP before you do something you’ll regret!!

    ………BTW, nice use of lava.

Thanks for the tip…expect a visit this afternoon. It is citizens like you, Carol, that help keep our country drug-free.

        dnag! my cover was blown!

I would like a picture of the fall from afar, please. I can’t judge by this overhead shot.

    Thank you.

    • Lloyd

Yes, and a quarter of something for scale too, if you please.

    • Peggy

Yea, what’s up with this shot? Not that it’s not a great picture … but we want to actually see the “First Fall” … please … sir. Thanking you in advance …

You need a new category for bad pictures…can you do a doover?

But the lava rocks are cool.

So, what is the optimal waterfall set-up? Lots of ‘splashy splashy’? More noise? Less noise? A winding path? Straight drop? Good thing you’re not God or this world would never have been done in seven days.

So, this is the first fall… of how many?

  5. Karla

Darn. I saw your post title and thought you had gone “splat” in your pond…

Sorry for not replying to the requests… I’ve been away from the computer all day.

I did not show the waterfall because it’s not done. It looks done, but I don’t like it, and I didn’t want a bunch of people saying, “Don’t change it; it looks great!” because then I would have changed it anyway and then had people say, “I liked it better the other way,” and then I would have had to get out my shovel.

    • Beth

      YAY for a picture! 😀

And I get it. But take a picture soon, would you?

    • Carol

[About the shovel part: then you would take out your frustration on a hapless by-standing rabbit? Or is the shovel your all-purpose weapon regardless the victim?]
