This whole past week we’ve been having trouble with our internet connection at school. Some days there has been no internet at all, but most days it might be up for a period of time in the morning, then down, then up for a few minutes, then down. It’s been awful.
I think if for some reason our school decided to stop having internet service, I’d seriously consider working someplace else. Besides all the messing around I do on the internet, I use it for a whole bunch of regular day-to-day things. Did you know MS Word uses the internet when you want to insert clip art? Because the internet connection was down, I had to use a wingding symbol for a worksheet I typed up. A wingding symbol, I tell you!

Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day to yer. Arr!
Yesterday evening after coming home from school and involuntarily passing out on the couch for thirty minutes, I decided to go back out and go shopping. This was pretty unusual because on weeknights I only leave my house when I absolutely have to.
But I wanted to get some Max supplies. I needed more litter and I wanted to get some of those sticky strips so I could booby-trap the computer desk. He keeps jumping up on it and I don’t want him to. I also ended up getting some litter box liners (which I would normally say are a waste of money because you can just use garbage bags, but I haven’t figured out how to make a garbage bag fit this new litter box correctly.) And I got a window shelf for Max. Ned never used the one I got for him, so I got rid of it. Max sits on the bare window sill a lot, so maybe he’ll like it.
Target was right next door, so I went there for some little birthday presents for a co-worker. I also finally got a present for my niece Anna. It’s been a long time since I just shopped around. My impulse buys included a bag of mini candy bars for our teacher room and a pack of Trident gum in a new flavor I hadn’t tried before. I spent $16.09 at Target, but it was way more fun than getting pet supplies. I was browsing! Awesome!

I think Max is smarter than Ned was. His playing seems to show some thinking skills. It surprises me a little, actually. I got used to sweet, stupid Ned. I don’t think Max is any kind of genius, but he’s definitely ahead of Ned. (Which maybe isn’t saying much.)
But his adequate brain power is hampered by above average clumsiness. He often crashes into walls and tables. Last night he ran into the rack that stores my Xbox games and knocked stuff on the floor. He ran away at first, but then came back to see what fell.
Here is what he got into yesterday morning while I was getting ready for school:

Food for Max was running low. His brand of food is kind of fancy, so it can’t be procured at the pet-supply box stores. Fortunately, there is a small specialty store for pets about a mile from here that carries his brand. Unfortunately, it closed at 4pm on Monday. Yikes! Would Max run out of food before I could get more?
Tune in next time…

I was pretty sure I had extra time yesterday because the store closed later. I was thinking that yesterday’s closing time was 5pm. My after school supervision duty lasted until 3:30. Then I watched the Middle School girls soccer game until halftime. By then it was 4pm. When I pulled into the parking lot of the pet food store it was… open! In fact, it was open until 6.
This store is called “Paws for Pets”. It’s in a weird little building and has a smashed-out sign, but it carries all kinds of specialty brands of pet food and has really low prices. Even if it wasn’t so close to me, I think I would still be giving it a bradaptation recommendation.
(Just watch out for the early closing time on Monday.)

I’ve been continuing to clean my basement, and made a happy discovery: a box that says “Childhood Toys”. It was particularly nice because years ago I had accidentally included the box of my elementary school memories in a pile of things to go to goodwill. It still makes me sick to think about what I had given away, but now I know I at least have SOMEthing from my early years.
The box includes a “Mighty Men and Monster Maker”, which is a laptop easel with interchangeable plates that you make rubbings of and color the pictures that result. I also have two Micronauts, which are action figures with magnetic connections at their limbs so their parts are interchangeable. I have Baron Karza and the Force Commander. They shoot tiny pieces you can choke on! Awesome! I also have several battery operated hand-held video games. They’re from the earliest years of such things, so they aren’t very fancy, but they’re really cool!

I also found an album with this picture in it. How is it possible that I have a picture of me when I was about seven and I’m next to my niece Tara? Is she a time traveler? Am I?
