Yesterday, I remembered that I still had the water lily from my old pond. I had put it into a tub full of water. It was doing quite well, which kind of makes me think that anyone could grow water lilies as long as they have a tub of water. Unless you’re really bad with plants. But really, all you would have to do is make sure the water doesn’t run out of the tub. What does that take? A look every two weeks or so? And maybe not even that, as long as it rains every once in a while.
Anyway, I wanted to divide the lily and re-pot it, but I needed some pond plant pots (which are full of holes) and some aquatic soil (which is really just clay granules). Upon arriving at my local garden center, I was greeted with the news that aquatic plants were half off. Awesome!
I got several perennials, since it’s the end of the season. They’ll survive the winter and come back next year. After dividing some of them and re-potting some of them, I put everything into the pond. They all look kind of small and scraggly, but next year they’ll be great!

Yesterday I worked at the Compassion Center again. This time, instead of being a greeter at the door, I spent almost the whole time shuffling clothes. I put the men’s clothing in color order. It started with the pants. At first I was just fixing how they were clipped into the hangers. Then I noticed there were a lot of tan pants. After putting them all together, I noticed there were a lot of blue pants. Before I knew it, the pants were grouped by color. Then I did the shirts.
While I was working at the men’s rack, I kept noticing the knick-knack table behind me. It had two giant cat statues on it. They were three feet tall. I kept wondering what the story was behind them. Did someone flank their front door with these? …or their fireplace? And what time period would these have come from? I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this in anyone’s house before.
Then I noticed the pig.

A couple weeks ago, I had the TV on and noticed that an old show called “The Rifleman” was coming on. I couldn’t watch it right then, so I recorded it. Last night I finally watched some of it. I really enjoyed it.
I don’t remember the circumstances, but I do remember that I’ve watched this show many times before. I especially remember the opening credits and the music. I remember thinking how cool Chuck Connors was. He was a good guy, but could give this really mean stare. He does it right in the opening credits. He also was an awesome shot with his rifle, and hence the name of the show.
It’s a good old TV show with an old-fashioned message: Good always wins in the end. I think it’s part of the reason why I became a masked vigilante.

Yesterday I finally was able to leave school quickly and do some stuff at home instead of passing out asleep on the couch. I took my tree trimmings to the dump with no incident, then returned to fiddle with the pond.
The water has been getting steadily more green. Last night I drained most of it and re-filled it with the hose. Maybe the chlorinated water will slow the algae. I did already see some bugs when the water level got low. I’m a little surprised, but very happy. Dragonfly nymphs eat mosquito larvae.
I still don’t like the waterfall, so I deconstructed it just a bit. I got some really nice big rocks from my neighbor Carl. I think one of them might fit the hole that doesn’t look right to me. But my biggest complaint continues to be one of the rocks the water falls off of in the waterfall. I’m considering breaking it with a hammer, but I don’t think that would end well.

Happy Birthday to my niece Anna! She’s seven today! Yay! (Her present will be in the mail soon, I’m sure. Uncle Brad is a little scattered right now.)
I finally have my teacher shoes for the 08-09 school year. They are Doc Martens Liam Two-Eye shoes.
I normally get my teacher shoes in August, but I spent so much money on the pond, I didn’t have any left for shoes. After getting paid, I visited shoe stores like crazy, but I couldn’t find anything I liked. I was looking for giant, clunky shoes with a round toe. It was a popular style in the late nineties/ early two-thousands. I couldn’t find anything like that. Everything was flat and square.
I decided to go online, and that’s when I found these. They weren’t giant and clunky, but they did have an old-fashioned look to them. Plus, they had grommets! I was a little nervous ordering shoes without trying them on, but I decided to go for it.
The shoes came on Tuesday, but I was too tired to unpack them. Last night I wore them for a while. They’re extremely comfortable. I love them! They have laces, which I haven’t had in a teacher shoe for several years, but they are wonderfully different. Yay for new shoes!
