Stupid Wind

Yesterday a big rainstorm came through. It was pretty windy. It knocked out the power to my neighborhood. At first I thought I’d just wait it out, but then my neighbor said he called BGE (Baltimore Gas and Electric), and they said the estimated time of restored power was 10:30pm – 11:00pm. I went out. I decided to hang out at the mall a little, then I went to IKEA to get their package of 100 tealights for $4. I was home around 8:30pm, at which time the power was still not on, and after puttering by candle light for a while, I went to sleep. My house is boring without electricity.

This morning I woke up late. My bedroom curtains are light-darkening and I didn’t have a clock. And my house is boring without electricity. The power was still out. After going to church and attending two after-church meetings, I’ve come to school to post. I’ll spend the day driving to the music store in Pennsylvania. I called BGE and they said they hope to have power restored by today.

It’s a little chilly in the house, so Denis was worried about Max. Before I got back from my church meetings today, he made Max a sweater out of an old sleeve. I think it makes a rather stricking mock turtle neck.

Does this make me look fat?

Eating and Sleeping

Last night was the next installment of “Dinners for Eight” with people from my church. I missed the last dinner because I thought it was on a Saturday, but it was on a Friday. This time, one of the other people in my group was kind enough to write a reminder note for me. I put it on my refrigerator.

I was in charge of bringing an appetizer. I thought it should be something with apples, since it’s apple season. I brought a dip I found on www.cooks.com. I was disappointed with the apples, due to my strange ability to pick only non-crisp specimens, but it was yummy anyway. I could have eaten just that for dinner, but there was other good food as well. The main course was beef stroganoff. Mmm…

After dinner, we were sitting around talking, and I was so sleepy. I had to stand to keep from falling asleep, and even then my eyes couldn’t stay open. I felt drugged. I ended up leaving at 9:45. I was a little embarrassed, but it was better than falling asleep while standing and then collapsing on their living room floor.

I think I’ll have some apple dip for breakfast…

The date changed! Are they trying to confuse me on purpose?

Fundraiser Season

I’ve recently participated in four different fundraisers. I tell the kids that I’ll buy one thing per fundraiser, so the first to ask me will get a sale. It seems strange that they would all clump together, but maybe there’s an ebb and flow to fundraisers. In this instance, the fund raisers were:

* Our school-wide Innisbrook sale, which features gift wrap, but offers other gifts. I ordered some peanuts and some dried apricots.
* Joe Corbi’s, sold by the cross-country team. It features pizza, which I don’t care for, and cookie dough, which I don’t care for, and pretzels, which I haven’t had yet. I ordered some pretzels.
* A popcorn and birdseed sale by a student who is a Boy Scout. I ordered popcorn for me and birdseed for the birds. I hope I don’t mix them up.
* Girl Scout cookies sold by a girl I don’t yet have in class because she’s a sixth grader. I got eight boxes. I like Girl Scout cookies.

I’ve had the Girls Scout cookies for a while. I’m eating them for at lunch each day. The Innisbrook order came in two days ago. The student I ordered from gave me my peanuts and apricots yesterday. I ate half the apricots immediately. Mmmm…

The green stuff is a juniper sprig. This might have made a nice gift for someone.

Peggle Nights Master

My favorite computer game is available in a new version. It’s called Peggle Nights. Of course I had to get it. It has a whole new set of levels, plus a new character with new powers to help you win.

Since I am a Peggle Grand Master, it didn’t take me long to conquer the basic levels. The challenge levels will take hours and hours of playing to win. Yay! I have a whole winter’s worth of entertainment!

I wasn’t fast enough to get a picture of the screen that said “Congratulations, Brad!”, but in the picture below you can see the trophy I won.

So sparkly...

New Mugs

I finally went to a store that opened just up the street from me. It’s called “$5 Deals” or something like that. It’s basically a dollar store, but with inflation. It had your basic offerings. I tried looking for some Orange-Glo, because I need to clean the banister on my steps. It’s gotten really dusty and some yummy, orange-smelling cleaner would do the trick. But It has to be Orange-Glo. The other ones are too oily.

I didn’t find the Orange-Glo, but I did find giant glass mugs. They were exactly the same as the one I broke. I got two.

Here's to ice chewing!
