I had fun shopping for Peggy’s birthday. I was hoping to find something that had a label on it saying: “As seen on TV”. I saw a “Pasta Express”, but it didn’t seem quite fun enough. Then I saw the ShamWow. There would be no end to the fun she could have with that!
It seems like I’ve been having a lot of conversations about the ShamWow lately, so it was funny that I would see it for sale. I was on lunch duty during Peggy’s birthday party, so I didn’t see her open the box, but I got to see the actual ShamWows later in the day. In fact, Peggy gave me a big one and a small one. Yay!
I’m going to try to re-create the demonstrations on the commercials because I’m something of a ShamWow skeptic, especially when it comes to that carpet demonstration. I have some scrap carpeting in my basement so it should be easy to reproduce. But I can’t do it today. Our wrestling boys are participating in a genuine all-day wrestling tournament. Woo hoo! Go Saints!

Happy Birthday, Peggy! Yay!
An envelope arrived in the mail yesterday. It was from Tara to Uncle Brad. I don’t think the art inside was for me though.
At Christmas time, I watched Tara paint and draw pictures several times. When she wanted to draw a picture for Max, I suggested she use sparkle paint because Max likes sparkles. She would gleefully squeeze as much paint out of the tubes as possible and pile it up in one big heap on the paper. Then she would fold the paper into a soggy mess and announce that I should give it to Max. I brought several of them home, but didn’t really show them to Max. This time was different.
Upon opening the envelope, I laid the papers on the floor and brought Max over.

Instead of gazing at the sparkly creation, Max preferred to smell it.

Thank you, Tara! Max loves the smell of your painting!

I did even less on my second snow day, but I took lots of pictures so it will look like I was busy. Mostly I just played Peggle after napping during some “Golden Girls” episodes, which made for really restless sleep. My favorite show to nap through is “The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross”, but the only time I know that’s on is Saturday morning.
Anyway, here goes:
I shoveled the sidewalk.

I worried about my ‘Sky Pencil’ holly. It normally looks like a column.

I was craving homemade pizza after seeing Beth’s post about it. I walked to the grocery store and got the ingredients.

And I hung some curtains that I got at IKEA a while back. They’re orangey-coppery-gold. I’ll be re-doing the living room in stages. Curtains first. I may get around to painting this room within the year.

It was a surprise to be off of school yesterday. I was almost ready to leave by the time I found out. Since I was already awake, I used my most productive time of the day (the morning) to take care of some paperwork and pay some bills. I was finished with all of that by 7am. It felt good.
Then I spent a big chunk of the day watching an Outer Limits marathon and playing Peggle. It was relaxing.
In the afternoon, I got two more things done: Firstly, I went to school to get my computer. In theory, I will be working on it today, shuffling kids into their second semester classes in my electronic gradebook, and writing chapel.
The second thing I got done was to pot the roses that are growing roots in the windowsill. The bumps I had previously wondered about are indeed roots. I was a little worried about fungus attacking the roses, so I wanted to sterilize the potting soil. A little online investigation suggested an easy remedy: pour boiling water through the soil before planting the cuttings. Easy!

Yesterday was our last “away” wrestling dual. There must’ve been a bunch of other teams traveling as well, because we got a rented bus. Normally, I would drive one of the school’s 15 passenger micro-buses, but I guess they were taken. We rode on a luxurious rented micro-bus. The seats were very comfortable and there were overhead baggage racks.
Our dual went very well. It was a good match-up of schools again, so the matches were hall hard-fought. We won more than half of them! Woo hoo!
On the way back, the bus was pretty empty. Parents had come to the dual and taken all but three of the kids. In the relative quiet on the way home, I graded papers.

BREAKING NEWS: Baltimore schools are once again cancelling school for the prediction of snow. I was expecting tomorrow to be cancelled, but today? I don’t know if I should say “Woo hoo!” or “Dang it!”. How am I ever going to establish my work routine?
