Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Another Crab Pretzel

Yesterday was our second wrestling dual. It didn’t go as well as the first, but our boys wrestled hard, and that’s what we ask of them. We were proud.

Afterward, some of us went to a place called Milano’s for a bite to eat. I had been there ten years ago or so. I remembered they had a good Greek salad, so I ordered it. I also ordered a crab pretzel. More and more restaurants are offering these. It’s a giant soft pretzel that’s topped with crab and cheese. The best one I’ve ever had is from a restaurant called Silver Spring Mining Company. It is the Silver Spring crab pretzel that my friend Mike traveled from Indonesia to have.

The crab pretzel from Milano’s was okay, but certainly not as good as Silver Spring. The pretzel was sort of bun-like, and there wasn’t enough topping. It was tasty, but I wasn’t closing my eyes while eating it.

Big, but not a winner.

Do all crab pretzels come with sort of burn-y cheese on top? Or did this one get too done?

When I come for Student Teacher Supervision this Spring we should go somewhere that you can order one and I can taste yours. Since I don’t really like crab and all…but I’m game for tasting things.

Ah – HA! So we WILL be getting student teachers from Seward this spring! I’d been wondering…particularly if we would even know one way or the other until we saw one standing in our doorway…enough said there. You’re our “connection” now, Beth. Keep us all posted, eh?

      • Beth

Yup. Four on their way to Baltimore. Two in the high school and two in the middle school. They’ll arrive in mid-March.

And, yes, I’m coming to be the supervisor – YAY!! 😀

Really? You’re coming this spring? Awesome! For how long?

And since you’re game for tasting things…if I make you a stuffed shrimp & a fried shrimp, yummy MD style, will you taste them? Pretty please with sugar on top…

The MS wrestlers were so fun to watch! They do fight HARD!! Kudos to the coaches!! And to those amazing Hoffman boys!! Woo hoo!!

It does help when your (younger!) brother is only 5 pounds heavier than you. Patrick and Sean have had a built in practice partner for many years.

Beth, we must also introduce you to Berger Cookies, if you have not already met them. Brad, I think we may need a chart for organizing meals for Beth.

Any ms social studies teachers coming out?

        • Michele

Speaking of Berger Cookies … I sent some out with Brad at Christmas. He was supposed to give them to his family – namely his parents. Did that ever happen or did he eat them all himself? Brad?

        • Beth

He shared them. I think Alicia ate three. 🙂

One MS ST is Spanish/English. I can’t remember the areas of the other. Maybe Math/SS?

        • Kim

          ok, cool!

      • Beth

I’ll come twice, but just for two days or so each time.

And I don’t mind trying things, even shrimp…but my problem with shrimp is less about taste and more about texture…and there’s not much to change the fact that biting into a shrimp gives me images of biting into a big fat caterpillar. Blech. 😉

Wrestling and crab pretzels – sounds like a dynamite combination! “You got your cheese in my half-nelson!” “You got your half-nelson in my cheese!” (Together) “Wait a minute…” (Cue music) “Two different things that have no business being together….”

    Is half-nelson a real thing?

I must say, Brad, some of your boys in particular DO really “wrestle hard”. That MC has quite a passion and moves like greased lightening…both of the Hoffman kids (whose Mom and Dad can’t possibly be proud of them) are wiry and seemed to respond to Dave’s directions well. Even though too many of our guys’ shoulders stayed on the mat too long, I have to agree: you have a dedicated crew there. Congrats, BLS graplers!

I still have absolutely no cue how they score that stuff, though. “Home 1 – Visitors 9” – NO idea where those points came from. Oh, well – I still cheered like I knew what was going on…and was surprised to hear that “Shoot!” is a viable from-the-stands-or-coach verbal for this sport, too. I thought y’all were kidding us there.
