My parents gave me some money for Christmas. When I get money or gift cards as a gift, I try to get something special so I can remember the person who gave it. I decided to get a ring from my favorite online supplier: Salt Lake Silver Ring Co. I chose a peridot ring, because I didn’t have a green stone yet.
The ring took forever to get here, but I finally have it. Unfortunately, it’s too big. I have the company’s ring-sizer set. It’s a bunch of plastic rings with sizes written on them. I was wavering between 10 and 10.5. I chose 10.5. I should have gone with 10. The ring spins loosely on my middle finger, where I usually wear rings. It holds still on my index finger, though. But a ring on my index finger? I don’t know if I like that, though it is very Aragorn-esque.

I would return the ring, but their phone number hasn’t been working, and this morning as I look for them on the web, their site is completely gone. Yikes! Is that why the ring took so long to get here? Are they closed forever? Is there a way to make a ring smaller without tying yarn around it?
I got my first “wrong number” text yesterday. Apparently, Ian and a friend of his whose cell phone wasn’t dead wanted to go to the movies. I was at school working, otherwise I’d have asked what movie they wanted to see. Looking at the listings for my local theater, I see 8 of 16 movies that I wouldn’t mind seeing. That’s pretty unusual.
Anyway, it was fun to get a wrong number text because I texted back.

I texted back “Wrong number.” Then I got this one:

I texted back “Nope. Sorry. Check the number again.” The friend of Ian’s whose phone wasn’t dead then sent: “sorry”. I sent: “It’s okay.”
The 717 area code is in Pennsylvania. My area code is 410. I would think it would be hard for kids to be friends if they lived in different area codes, but I guess friendship knows no bounds. Or kids don’t care if their parents have to drive them all over creation to spend time with their friends who live out of state.
I’ve recently started taking notes during sermons. I’ve been having a terrible tendency to fall asleep, so I’m taking notes to help keep me awake. As it turns out, it works very well. Plus, I listen better to what’s being said. Win-win.
Taking notes like this reminds me of World History class from high school. Mr. Fuchs was an excellent story-teller, so I rarely had trouble staying awake while he talked. But I had to write furiously to get what he said onto my paper. I always wrote in sentence/paragraph form, rather than outline form. As I became more accomplished, I started making the notes for the day one continuous run-on sentence. It continued to make the note taking a challenge.
The day I had trouble staying awake was Reading Day. We had regularly scheduled days where we read historical books for book reports. I slept almost every time we had a day like that. I even remember Mr. Fuchs saying that. He was telling some kid to stop screwing around and said something like: “Royuk sleeps in here all the time and his grade is okay.” I don’t remember if it was a complement or an insult.

I forgot to say “Happy Birthday” to my nephew Daniel yesterday. I didn’t forget his birthday, though. I mailed his card yesterday. I like to make the birthdays last, so I always send my greetings late.
I also went out for some sushi yesterday. It’s been a while. I went to Sushi Hana, so I had the super-delicious salad with carrot dressing. I also had my favorite kind of sushi – salmon. It was, as always, sweet and delicious.
What was especially awesome-good yesterday was the Eda Mame (edda mah-may). It’s an appetizer that I think I could eat for a whole meal. It’s simply steamed soybeans in the pod covered with flaky salt. Honestly, I don’t know what kind of salt it was, but I almost licked the bowl. It seemed extra tasty. And soybeans are supposed to be good for you, right? So here’s to me for eating a nutritious meal! (except for some deep-fried tempura seafood)

Wow, this year’s birthday really has staying power.
After going to school and grading in the morning, I went to a different H&M looking for the Rocketeer Jacket. I had found a coupon online, but didn’t know if they’d accept it. It didn’t have a barcode on it or anything. As I stepped into the store, the security guy handed me a full-color version of the coupon.

I wore it for a while when I got home. I’ll have to wait for it to get warmer before I wear it outside though. Here’s what it looks like when it’s not fully buttoned:

But wait, there’s more. When I arrived home, there was a package waiting for me. It was from California. It was an honest-to-goodness, real, live, Peggle Ultra Extreme Grand Master trophy. Thanks kiwe! Awesome!

Max had fun today, too. I finally remembered to bring home the pipe cleaner Michele gave me. HERE he is playing with it.
