Two Tests

I went for the first of my stomach tests yesterday. First was the ultrasound of my gall bladder. My appointment was for 8am. I was surprised to see lots of people in the waiting room already when I got there. The ultrasound itself was fun. I couldn’t really see the screen until I had to turn on my side. Then I saw her take a picture of my spleen and label it “spleen”. When everything was over, I said, “Are you allowed to tell me if you saw anything?” She said, “Well… no, but your gall bladder is okay.” The problem is that I can’t remember the inflection she used. Did she say, “Your gall bladder is okay”, or did she say, “Your gall bladder is okay”? It makes a big difference. The second one sounds like a “but” follows it: “Your gall bladder is okay, but…”

Right after the ultrasound, I went to the blood-taking lab. Both tests were fasting tests, so I decided to just get them both over with. The lab was packed. I got angry at the receptionists because they were moving so slowly – more slowly, in fact, that the blood-drawing technicians. Since I was so mad, I went to sleep. I woke again to someone shouting my mis-pronounced last name. Then I heard another name called. I stumbled to the desk right ahead of the next guy she called. Since two of us approached at the same time, she sighed in frustration. I was glad for the payback.

The blood draw itself went without a hitch.

I never get those cool bruises that other people get.

If you went to a facility on Route 7 in Rossville for your tests, I totally feel your waiting pain. Last time I had to go for a blood draw, I wanted to leap over the counter where the receptionist was and offer to help speed things along a bit. The “line” at 8 a.m. filled the waiting room and oozed down the common building hallway. Fortunately, I had arrived by 7:30 to wait outdoors so I could be one of the EF’s (early frustrated) and leave before someone else went postal….

[..and you want a hematoma (sp.?)?!]

I’m glad you’re getting the tests over with – it’s so exciting! How long did you have to fast? Were those 4 packs of gum to help you through your fasting period? (I’m not counting the Tic-Tacs, because those are chock-full of calories.)

I would also like to test your blood, if that’s still on the table.

Sorry, you have to be a vampire certified lab technician for that.

Well, here’s hoping that it’s: “…well, your gall bladder is ok…” you crazy person you!

And too bad your technician was competent & didn’t have blood squirt all over when she removed the needle!

Is that ALL gum in your cup holder?

At least one thing of tic-tacs, maybe two. Saw them up close and personal on Friday.

Two tic-tacs. Four gum. All weird fruity (except for the white tic-tacs). All xylitol.
