I celebrated three birhtdays yesterday. It was Carol’s birthday, so there was a lunchtime celebration (which I missed because I had lunch duty), but Carol’s husband invited us to suprise her with a little appetizer and drink gathering after school. It was a fun way to end the week. Happy Birthday one day late, Carol!
Later in the evening, I was going to a party to celebrate the birthdays of two other co-workers. They were both born on the same day (the 27th) and were both celebrating their 27th birthdays. Twenty-seven on the twenty-seventh! It was their Golden Birthday. I went to Target to find them something golden. I ended up getting them some “Haribo Gold-Bears” gummi bears. The gold packaging was perfect!
Something strange happened while I was at Target, though. In the eight minutes I was there, two different people asked me if I worked there. What was that all about? I wasn’t even wearing red. I was wearing grey pants, a white shirt, and a tie with music notes on it. Do I look like a Target person or something? Maybe next time I could get in to the employee lounge and see if there’s any birthday cake there or something. Mmm… free food…

Did you ask one of them to take your picture for your blog?
Heh. Funny.
Oh, and why no picture of the bears?
You look so responsible, Manager Brad. No! King Brad!
I’ve gone too far, haven’t I?
On Fridays, we have to wear our bank logowear to work. One Friday lunchtime, I was wearing my navy short sleeve sweater (complete with the bank logo) and tan pants in Walmart. A little old lady asked me if I worked there. I pleasantly told her no and thought about the bank name plastered on my chest and the fact that I was carrying a purse.
The rest of the shopping trip, every time I turned around, that lady was right there. I think she was following me because she thought I was lying to her!
I’m going to try that with my students next year.
Stalking them?
What – carrying a purse all day?
Indeed, Frey-day was quite special, thanks to many Bradaptationland souls and others. Peggy’s chocolate birthday cake with chocolate icing was only the beginning of the Eat-a-thon that has been my weekend. Appetizers…steamed crabs…more birthday cake…breakfast shots at Burger King Sat. a.m….dinner with longtime friends of Thurman at Cheesecake Factory (never a lo-cal experience)…and it ain’t over yet. Were I a grizzly bear, I would already be ready for next winter’s hibernation.
Amazing…Thank you to everyone out there who contributed to all the celebrating. I am blessed with amazing friends and a most wonderful spouse.
