Scent

I needed new shampoo, so I went to the grocery store. My regular brand is Head and Shoulders. They had it, but I wanted a big bottle. The only big bottle they had was a different flavor than I’m used to, but I got it anyway. Shampoo is shampoo, right?

Not really.

This shampoo has a different smell. For the first couple of hours after I shower, I can smell my own head. It’s a little disorienting. I’m hoping to be used to this new smell soon so I don’t notice anymore. If there were such a thing as Head and Shoulders “no scent”, I think I might try it. I already use scentless soap, deodorant, and lotion. If it weren’t for my shampoo, I wouldn’t smell like anything. As it is, I can’t sneak up on people to assassinate them because they’ll smell me coming.

It's a light scent redolent of citrus and peony.

Laziness Always Wins

I have said that if I wrote an autobiography, I would call it “Laziness Always Wins”. I’m on the couch watching TV and I get hungry for a snack: In the contest between hunger and laziness, laziness always wins. I’m upstairs and I want to wear jeans, but they’re in the dryer in the basement: In the contest between fashion and laziness, laziness always wins. I should go to a social event at church, but I really just want to stay home: In the contest between guilt and laziness… well, guilt trumps everything, so that doesn’t count.

Anyway, my downstairs toilet has been misbehaving for a while. The float in the tank gets stuck and the water continues to run. The only way to stop it is open the lid and pull the float up to stop the water. It’s a big pain, but replacing the toilet guts is a bigger pain. And in the contest between annoyance and laziness, laziness always wins.

I'll fix it someday...

Opportunity

I just got a wheat penny in change. I haven’t seen one of these in a long, long time. I used to look for them as a kid and collect them. I should have saved them. They might have been worth something. A quick search for my 1956 D Wheat Penny says it’s worth anywhere from 3 to 20 cents. Maybe I should do that during the weekends to make a little extra money. I could get rolls and rolls of pennies from the bank, search through them for wheat pennies, then re-roll the non-wheats and return them for more pennies. It’s a foolproof plan!

Lincoln is looking particularly wheaty.

And this wheat is looking... Lincolny?

Couch Company

I took another sick day yesterday. Sort of. I didn’t sing in choir in the morning, and I excused myself from being liturgist at church. I sat in the back and fell asleep during the sermon, even though I was taking notes. I’ve been having difficulty deciding if I’m fatigued from sickness, or if my mind is telling my body I have a perfectly good excuse for being lazy.

I did go to school to get some grading done, so I accomplished something yesterday. Oh, and I had to go to the grocery store. I had apples and dip for dinner. Mmm… peanut butter and brown sugar apple dip…

Anyway, whenever I was home, I was on the couch again. Max was happy to join me.

There was a fingerprint on the lens, so this picture is all fuzzy.

I held the camera forever waiting for this... and then it was blurry.

Sick Day

My flu-ish symptoms continued yesterday, but a couple weeks ago I had signed up to work at the Compassion Center at church. It was the first time I’d be working there since… October? There was no way I would skip it. If I didn’t come back now, it might be another nine months before I got back.

Working there was okay. I felt tired, and I was coughing a lot. But I made a point of not touching anyone. And they had some hand sanitizer there that I used.

When I came home, I lay down on the couch and stayed there. I got up once to get something to eat, and I got up a second time to go to the drug store for cough suppressant. I watched “Ghost Town”, which was clever. I also watched several episodes of Doctor Who. God bless DVR. It’s set to record any Doctor Who episode that comes on. There was a marathon two weeks ago. I finished the last episode in the queue yesterday. I think I’ve almost seen every episode of this modern incarnation of the show.

Cough medicine and the Tardis.
