A Day of Sightseeing

Yesterday was Philadelphia Day. We started by going to Independence Hall. Brent reserved tickets so we didn’t have to wait in line. It was awesome. On the way from the parking garage, I noticed that my nephew Daniel wasn’t stepping on any cracks. I noticed it because I was looking down and trying not to step on any cracks. It made me chuckle. I risked stepping on cracks to get a picture.

A tip-toe avoidance, just in time.

The Independence Hall tour was great. Our guide was a very good speaker. I would hire him for all the major parties I hosted at Independence Hall. He told us that the wooden railing in one of the stairwells is original to the building. Ben Franklin would have leaned against it as he went down the stairs. Awesome!

I touched it!

And, of course, we stopped to see the Liberty Bell. This time, Anna Alicia did not get up underneath it like she did last time she saw it.

But wait! There’s more! Brent really wanted to see where Washinton crossed the Delaware. It was only a half hour further north, so off we went. There’s a park at the site. It was lovely.

The story is amazing and depressing at the same time.

Sandra wanted to see the gravesite of some of the Revolutionary soldiers that died in the winter cold before the crossing. We had a hard time finding the place because it wasn’t clearly marked. It was cool to be at such an out-of-the-way monument.

Can you see them waving?

[You are ready to do your informercials now, Brad - "But wait - there's more!" Billy Mays has nothing on you...]

What great weather you all had for this day of historical discovery – congratulations! What ever will today bring?

    • Carol says:

OK, this is just a little creepy…guess who was found dead at 7:45 EDT this morning in his home following receipt of a blow to his head the night before received from something tossed about in his airplane during a rough runway landing. Yikes! Same age as that “kid” from Gary, IN, too…scary stuff…

  2. Beth says:

You touched the railing…and the girl below you now thinks you’re some sort of lunatic.

    Congratulations.

And cool day of visiting old things and old places.

  3. Lauren says:

Excellent Royuk Day of Fun! Did you feel the power of Ben Franklin shoot up into your arm? Do you now have mutant Revolutionary powers? Are you stricken with a desire to wear bifocals and write an almanac?

  4. Lloyd says:

Did you make it to the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art this time?

  5. Peggy says:

    Radio Quizz Show

Freddy Filmore: What did George Washington say when crossing the Delaware?

    Ricky Ricardo:_________________________________________

(prize to whoever gets it right…no cheating)

  6. Beth says:

I’m cold. And I’m tired. And if it wasn’t for those stupid redcoats I wouldn’t have to be doing this. Stupid redcoats.

  7. Lauren says:

“What did Della wear, boys? What did Della wear?” I understand Ricky was a great singer.

    • Peggy says:

HAHA!! Good but not right. (Too bad that Arkan saw, boy…Who died in misery…you live in new brass key, boy…)

  8. Annette says:

When you arrive in Seward, be sure Brent gives you the Weller tour….no match!

  9. Peggy says:

Ricky’s really upset & embarrassed because they’re getting all the answers wrong because although Lucy stole & memorized all the answers…at the last minute they switched the questions. The GW question was the bonus question.

Freddy: What did GW say while crossing the Delaware?
Ricky: Please let me sit down…this is making me sick!
Freddy: THAT’S RIGHT! THAT’S RIGHT! THAT’S WHAT GEORGE WASHINGTON SAID! YOU WIN!! applause applause applause

And it’s gotta be right if it was on Lucy!
