A Quick Trip to Lincoln

Everybody knows there’s no such thing as a quick trip to Lincoln, but yesterday I tried. I had some shopping to do. I ended up getting some plants for my garden here in Seward. But the looking was the thing. I especially enjoy going to Finke Gardens and Nursery. Their buyer likes exotic plants, just like me. I suppressed many impulses at that place. After all the looking and buying, my trip to Lincoln lasted five hours.

But real excitement came from a visit to Walmart right here in Seward. Beth came along on that trip. I needed ibuprofen and fruit. I also needed a belt, but forgot. I went back later. Beth needed “pony holders”. I thought the farm supply store would be a better place for that, but she found them in the hair care aisle.

On the way through the checkout line, I saw something that I’ve been looking for for months: Icebreakers Iced Tea mints! I was so excited. I started piling containers on the belt and Beth said, “Why don’t you just take the whole box?” So I did. Woo hoo! I’ll have a supply for months!

So lemony and tea-like.

Congrats. I keep boxes of chewing gum, too. Extra. And I tear it in half because a whole stick is too big.

What do you do with the other half sticks?

      • Deanne

Extra now comes in a little box. So it’s very easy to just tear them in half and leave the other half in a covered box, well protected. The box has three “columns,” if you will, of gum. I eat from the middle column first, and always leave my half-pieces in the middle column.

It’s working very well, and I believe I’m saving a good bit of money on my gum-chewing habit (if, in fact, I’m not chewing twice as often as before, which I don’t think I’m doing.)

Ha! A five-hour shopping trip. Sounds about right.

How do you think they make ice tea mints? Pour some ice tea into really tall, skinny (mint-diameter) glasses, let it evaporate, then shake out the mint?

Ok, not funny. To be fair, it’s early and I’m barely conscious.

Would that they had such a natural process! All of this stuff has interesting chemicals in it, methinks.

I overheard her say the same thing in the liquor aisle…hence the mints!

      Haha!

Why is there no such thing as a quick trip to Lincoln? Do you have to take a horse & buggy to get there?

      • Annette

        Tractor.

I’ll be making that quick trip today if you all would like to join me on the patio at Brewsky’s in the Haymarket…5:30pm! Peggy, I’ll pick you up in my John Deere!

    • Peggy

Haaay, where were you? I waited, and waited and waited…

      Whatchur tractor break down?

      • Beth

        Heh. 😀

Say! I’ve been to that very Wal-Mart, I do believe, with Sandy Schmidt (of Al and Sandy Schmidt not in Hong Kong fame) once back in 1980-somethingorother. It was my very first Wal-Mart experience (I was a Wal-Mart virgin, one might say, before then), and Sandy made it sound like the wave of the future or something. But, then, what did she know…

Save me an Iced Tea Mint, will ya’? I love iced tea 12 months out of the year, and between gum and mints I have to shove something into my mouth most waking hours, so why not combine the experiences? Sounds wonderful!!

    • Carol

That was supposed to say “now in Hong Kong”. Hey, I’ve been on vacation for a few days – cut me some proof-reading slack, eh?
