Happy Birthday, Michele! (Yay! My memory archive works!)
Today is also the anniversary of my first regular post. It is known as Bradaptation Day. I’ve been trying to think of some appropriate way to celebrate the day. What sort of tradition or custom might be fitting for such a day? Last night we went out for steak fingers at RO’s. They were delicious, and now I can check them off the list. Still on the list: eat at Godfather’s Pizza.
…So eating some kind of food you like? That seems like a good way to celebrate.
I had some suggestions last year. You may want to celebrate the day that way. Or if you have other ideas, please share them.

I went to Lincoln with Beth and Lauren yesterday. Beth wanted to go to Lemon Days at the mall. It’s a day where all the stores put stuff into the hallway and have “sidewalk sales”. I didn’t get anything, though I did look a little bit for teacher shoes.
I was excited to see a Dippin’ Dots stand. I don’t think I’ve ever tried them before, so I got some. Ouch! They are painful! They stuck to my tongue and ripped the skin off of it. I didn’t even finish them.
Lauren said: “You’re doin’ it wrong!”
Beth said: “I like cats!”
Later in the evening, Bobbie was kind enough to model what I was doing after my tongue skin was torn off:

I have resisted the Cult of Facebook as well as I can. I only joined in the first place so I could tell my classmate Tony about our twentieth high school reunion. But then the friendship requests came. Beth put me on her friend list, and that started a domino progression of requests.
I state on my front page that I’m not an active Facebook user. I haven’t even had a picture up. But now I feel like I should have a picture. It seems like the polite thing to do. “Is this the Brad I went to elementary school with?” Well, now my picture should help people know.
But this doesn’t mean I’ll be accepting invitations to join the People Who Care About Lemmings group. And I won’t be swapping virtual bunnies with anyone either. All I do is accept friends and answer messages. For now.
Here’s the picture I’m using:

UPDATE: After consulting with everybody, it was decided the above picture looked a little crazed. Lloyd and Lauren took a bunch of other pictures. These are the two we pulled out:
Choice One

Choice Two

Which one should I use?
Yesterday started out in Omaha. There was an auction for Omaha public schools. Lloyd had to go. He ended up getting a strobe light and a tripod. There weren’t many other people there. We marveled at the biker family. Lauren and I went to a grocery store. I got some grapes.

After coming back to Seward and taking a nap, we worked in the garden a little. The smaller plants are in, and the mulch is almost done. Lauren got to use some of her crazy-person-rain-barrel-water. I’ll do a final “after” picture when it’s all together.

At night, Charles and Harold came over and we played Settlers of Catan (Classic). It was almost hard to remember the non-expansion rules. My game started out spectacularly when I was able to stack all my non-used game pieces in one single Tower of Doom! As far as I was concerned, I had already won the game. But we continued anyway, and Lloyd won. But not before I had worked my way into a position of not being able to do anything. Yay, me!

I’ve been trying to be better about how I eat this summer. Usually when I come to Nebraska, I go crazy and eat anything that sits still. It doesn’t help that I’m eating my mom’s cooking or that I’m going to restaurants that offer some of the most tasty beef in the world. But I’m trying to take it easy on my acid-refluxing stomach.
It definitely doesn’t help that Lloyd and Lauren’s house is a wonderland of tasty treats. It seems like every time I get a little hungry, there’s always something to eat. When I’m at home, there’s nothing. And, as I’ve said before, Laziness Always Wins. But here, the cabinets overflow with crackers, chips, and cookies. The refrigerator has pizza and spaghetti. And the countertop… Don’t get me started on the counter top…
