Messages from Brad

Brad From The Past is so clever! He’s always leaving me messages that help me immensely. He has used Bradaptation several times to tell me something important from the past. Or sometimes notes are left in conspicuous places around my house or school. Notes from him often take me by complete surprise. I sometimes don’t even remember writing them, but there they are. Cool!

Yesterday morning there was a sticky note on my laptop at school. It told me that when I got there I should tape some electrical cords to the walls in my classroom. All week I’ve been wandering around the building in the mornings wondering what I’m doing there so early. Yesterday I knew exactly what to do.

Thank you, Brad From The Past! You’re awesome!

Somehow he knew that the first thing I do in the morning is get out my laptop.

Summer is Not Over Yet

I recently got some peaches from a farm stand. I really like fruit, but I usually don’t have a lot of luck picking good pieces to buy. I don’t think I could’ve gone wrong with these peaches though. They were all beautiful. I looked for ones that were ripe. I dislike unripe peaches and nectarines. In fact, I don’t think I like any fruit to be unripe. I like it soft, sweet, and juicy. Unless it’s an apple, then I like it crunchy. Or a grape. If grapes are too soft, they give me the jibblies.

Mmm... the napkin was soaked with juice by the time I finished.

Astraphobia

Yesterday afternoon there were some rather impressive thunder storms in Baltimore. I had trouble seeing the storm very well because I was driving and my windshield was awash with water. When I’m at home during thunderstorms, I often go out onto the porch to enjoy them. This time I was trying not to crash into people who were suddenly slamming their brakes on because it was raining.

When I got home, the first order of business was to close the windows, though most of the damage was already done. Second order of business: find Max. He didn’t greet me at the door begging for food. That’s kind of weird, so I thought I should find him. He wasn’t in his bed upstairs. He wasn’t on the couch. I looked under furniture upstairs and downstairs. Nothing. I went to the basement. While I was down there, he stepped out from behind the boiler. I carried him upstairs, but he refused to come away from the basement door. I kept wondering if his animal senses were telling him something bad was going to happen, but nothing did.

After the thunder stopped, Max went to eat something, then sat with me on the couch and pretended like nothing was wrong. I guess he doesn’t like storms.

Perhaps being with shoes makes him feel safer. Or maybe it's the cow.

Chevrons

Yesterday was our first “meeting day” at school. I don’t like meetings very much, so it wasn’t a fun day. But I saw all my co-workers, so it was a fun day. I dressed casually for the occasion, which means I wore my summer shoes. I have built up effective callouses to withstand the sharp, cutting, painful spots on the shoes. I also have apparently been getting a lot of sun on my feet. They’ve become tanned. Yesterday, in spite of the meetings, I somehow got even more sun on them. They felt almost hot, like I had burned them or something.

Here they are in all their bronze glory:

Shoes on...

...shoes off.

Cooookies!

I always tell my schoolkids that one of the good things about being an adult is that you can eat whatever you want for dinner. I have been craving vanilla wafers for more than a week now, so I finally decided to put the craving to rest for a while. I went to the grocery store and got a box and had them for dinner.

I like vanilla wafers because they can be eaten a bunch of different ways: you can eat them in the regular way; or you can press them against your front teeth while making a nibbling motion, thus crushing them to crumbs in your mouth; or you can press the bottoms of two cookies together, making a flying saucer shape, and hold them in your mouth while drinking milk so they turn soft and you can smoosh them with your tongue.

I went to bed feeling kind of sick last night. Excellent. Now I won’t be craving vanilla wafers again for several months.

I ate about 800 calories' worth.
