Cold! Hot!

Something weird has been happening to my body’s thermostat when I go to sleep.

All summer I’ve been running my bedroom air conditioner at full blast during the night. In spite of the cold air in the room, I felt too warm at night. By morning, I always felt cooler.

The last week or so, the nighttime temperatures outside have gotten cooler. Not being a fan of humidity while sleeping, I’ve continued to run my air conditioner instead of opening the windows. Needless to say, that’s made it pretty cool in my bedroom.

But here’s the weird thing: All night long the last few nights, I’ve been freezing cold, but I’ve been sweating like crazy. I would think it was a fever or something, but it only happens at night. In the morning, I take a hot shower and my thermostat seems to re-set itself. Maybe I should just figure out some way to convert body heat energy into usable electricity. I’d never have electric bills again!

Sometimes I feel cooler if I stick a foot out.

I fly to Nebraska after school today for my grandma’s funeral. After suffering with Alzheimer’s for many years, she finally is enjoying heaven. I look forward to celebrating her life. But in order to get to the celebration, I must fly. Here is the obligatory picture:

Do you suppose this would feel cold or hot?

Maybe you’re going through menopause. Wait until you get here – we can swap some stories.

Regarding your plane question – I go for ‘freezing terror’.

I often find that if you’re sweating, taking off a heavy comforter helps.

I didn’t mean that sarcastically…that’s really my advice. Less covers, more fans!

      But I’m freezing at night.

Hmmm…maybe all that fluorescent lighting you like has caused a disruption in your natural thermostat…or maybe, could it be…you have the swine flu! Or one of these:

Shoot – I thought you were going to your grade school reunion this weekend…so of course when you left I yelled after you, “Have a good time this weekend – bring back good stories!” I can only imagine what sort of dunderhead you thought me to be for saying that. (‘Course, we usually had good stories at our family wakes and funerals, now that I think on it. Dad was laid out in his Santa Claus suspenders…the Bergers brought a huge bag of Dunkin Donuts to the funeral home when Mom died and tried to stuff everyone with them for fear we’d expire over the 5 hour viewing time otherwise…we’re still looking to dispose of cousin Sue’s ashes from Space Mountain in November [sshhh! That ain't legal]….ah, funerals – good times.)

While I do send condolences to your whole family for their loss, I know your grandmother is meeting some pretty cool folks now who used to walk with us but died in faith – new body and mind – it all sounds pretty inviting. Regardless how old we get, though, we still miss ‘em, don’t we? Share a hug with those who knew and loved her..’

Those tan lines are a little distracting. Maybe you could use a few tanning sessions?
