Round

Over Labor Day weekend I got a little bored, so I ordered some stuff over the internet. One of my purchases was new glasses. Every once in a while I’ve tried on round glasses frames to see what they look like. I’ve always looked kind of like a bug when I tried them on. But since I’m getting older and my face skin is sinking in, I thought it might be time to try again.

The smallest round glasses I could find on the internet were from Zenni Optical, the place I had previously gotten glasses from. I figured that the smaller the diameter of the frame was, the less bug-like I would look.

I’m still not sure I like them, but they were only $20. I’ll wear them around the house a little to see if I get used to them.

I would like them better if my eyebrows were above the frames. I raised one eyebrow so you could see what I was talking about.

Oh, and I got a haircut.

I Hate O’Hare Airport

If I could punch O’Hare Airport in the face, I would. I hate flying through there. If not for the last-minute nature of my travel arrangements, I would have gone through any other city to get to Nebraska and back. ANY other city.

It seems like every time I fly through Chicago, my flight is delayed or canceled because of weather. If the weather is so bad for flying, it seems strange that airlines continue to connect through O’Hare. Wouldn’t they increase customer satisfaction AND save massive amounts of money if every other flight they book wasn’t delayed or canceled? I think some city is missing a big opportunity… “Build an airline hub and they will come.”

Yesterday, the problem was fog. I left Omaha an hour late because Chicago wouldn’t let anyone land because of fog. Luckily my connection was delayed. It was delayed because the plane at the gate before my plane was waiting for a flight attendant who was delayed because her plane couldn’t land in Chicago. Because of fog.

I finally got on the tiny plane that was going from Chicago to Baltimore. I was really nervous because I was in the very last seat in back and thought I might get airsick. But there wasn’t any turbulence. And no one made any stinky visits to the bathroom. Thank God for small blessings!

You can see all the ups, downs, and sidewayses very vividly from the back of the plane. Yikes!

Seward Day of Fun

Yesterday was a Seward day of fun. I started the day by sleeping late. Lloyd and Lauren had been up for hours by the time I came downstairs. But surprise! They had gotten donuts! I sat around for a while before showering. It was awesome.

At 11:30am, I went to my parents’ house. I was going to help my dad babysit Tara and Tim. We went to McDonald’s, then hung out and watched several episodes of “Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!” and some “Wonderpets” as well. If you want to know what those shows are go HERE. Make sure your computer sound is on.

In the evening, there was a Concordia football game. Before the game, there was a fan appreciation event, complete with bounce houses and picnic food. I was most excited about the rice crispy bars. They had that marshmallowy, buttery goo on the bottom. Delicious!

Mmmm... so good...

I only stayed until halftime of the game because I needed to prepare for my trip home. I found out later that Concordia lost. Dang. My plane leaves/left at 7:05am from Omaha! That means leaving Seward at 4am! Yikes!

At least if this happens I'll probably be sleeping.

Family Gatherings

Yesterday was a fun celebration of Grandma Royuk’s life.

The funeral was nice. I especially liked the pastor’s message. It was a very clear explanation of Christianity. At the internment, the pastor did something I had never seen before: he poured sand on the casket in the shape of a cross.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't salt. But I didn't taste it.

After the funeral was the luncheon. It was a traditional potluck, and it was awesome. I couldn’t believe how many kinds of jello there were. I tried them all.

This was only one of four tables.

After the luncheon, we went to Aunt Bev’s house. We had even more food and we sat and talked and laughed. We all had Mogen David wine and Snickers bars, because they were Grandma’s favorite.

These go together very well. Good choice, Grandma.

We stayed until dusk. I went back to Seward with my parents and stayed with Lloyd and Lauren. I slept really well again. And woke up late. It’s 10:14am Eastern Time. Sorry for the late posting.

Section 31

Happy Birthday to my niece Anna! Yay!

After two uneventful flights, I’ve safely arrived in Arlington, Nebraska. The only weird thing about this trip was a connection through Houston. Usually I connect through Detroit or Minneapolis or Chicago, all of which are flights of about 2 hours. Houston to Baltimore is three hours and forty minutes. Yikes!

Anyway, I slept like a dead man last night. It was glorious! After a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast (mmm… toast…), I needed to post for the day. Searching for wireless signals produced something interesting:

I couldn't connect to the unnamed network unless I knew its name.

What the heck is Section 31? And what is it doing hiding here in sleepy little Arlington, Nebraska?
