Pot Shopping

I got two new plants in the mail on Friday. I am very excited about them. One is called murraya paniculata or Orange Jasmine. The catalog says it’s an everbloomer and that the flowers smell like orange blossoms. I’m taking it to school for the winter. Then if it blooms I can enjoy it during the day. The other plant is called stapelia flavopurpurea or Starfish Flower. It will be a featured plant in my kitchen windowsill. I will most certainly post about it the first time it blooms.

Yesterday I went shopping for pots to put these plants in. I also needed a new pot for a fern that I would be putting in my downstairs bathroom. It was a glorious day because I LOVE pots. I have to work hard to resist the impulse to buy them. And yesterday I could buy THREE! Here is what I got:

For the Orange Jasmine, I got a super-thick plastic pot that looks like weathered terra cotta. It’s so cool.
It's sitting by the door so I remember to take it to school.

For the Starfish Flower, I got a hexagon pot. I was trying to find something vaguely oriental, since I already had the blue and white pot.
I think the overhang will be okay.

And for the fern, I got a pot with a medallion on it, since my bathroom already looks sort of asian-themed from Beth and Lauren’s makeover.
I'll be surprised if Max doesn't knock this over.

Since I was at garden centers all day, I of course bought a plant. Aquatic plants were on sale for $1. How could I NOT buy two? I got two hibiscus acetosella plants. They are giant and messy looking right now. Hopefully next spring they’ll look neater.
Gorgeous maple-tree-looking leaves.

I especially love pot #2 & #3!! I hope you keep us posted on the Orange Jasmin’s progress too. That plant lools really cool…and I love the smell of orange!

    1. Is that table in the bathroom bowed naturally?

    2. Is a starfish plant a catus?

    3. Is is ok to hate you just a little for all your cool plants & pots?

  3. Lauren says:

How on earth do plants get shipped in the mail? That’s like saying, “I got two new donkeys in the mail on Friday.” How? How?

  4. Carol says:

First off, relieved to not read about you shopping for some illegal plant products to be smoked for “medicinal purposes” or something; would have hated to raise bail money for you, you know?

Secondly, that hibiscus-that-wants-to-be-a-maple leaf is absolutely gorgeous – and this is an aquatic plant, you say? Hope the shishies in your pond appreciate its grandeur!

Finally, I give Max three days tops to trash the pot in the bathroom, which will be a shame but will make me feel better about banishing all our houseplants to the front porch since the arrival at our home of the kitten formerly known as Moose. What a bull in a china (pot) shop!
