Saturday was an open house day at school. I went in early because I had to straighten my room and hang some colorful artwork on the wall. Since I was a little chilled and since I was craving it, I made some coffee. I ended up drinking all of it before the open house started. Once things started, I felt like I was crashing from the caffeine, so I made some hot tea. It helped.
Later that day, I felt like I had overdosed on caffeine. My eyeballs were hurting and I had a headache. I had sort of a nap, but it didn’t feel like it helped. I was groggy for the rest of the day.
Then yesterday, I got up early so I could go to school before church, as is my custom. I had grading to finish. My head still felt weird, so I did not make any coffee. It was hard to stay awake, and I think I got less done than I would have if I drank some coffee, but I didn’t want that awful headache back. I was horribly sleepy in church and I ended up taking a nap in the afternoon, but I think my head might be returning to normal.
So now what do I do? Never drink caffeine again? That’s unlikely. I’m exceptionally sleepy again this morning, and the whispering voice of coffee calls to me.

I just LOVE colored paper… in particular, the non-pastel kind. It brings me great joy to go through the drawer in my classroom that contains the colored paper I’ve purchased over the years. I mostly use it for signs and bulletin boards, but sometimes I let the kids use a piece for a particular assignment.
Yesterday morning I wanted to make a sign for some student art I was hanging on the wall and I wanted yellow paper. I was out! I had to resort to the paper the school gets, which is all pale and faded. So yesterday evening I went out and bought some new! Woo hoo!

Kim regularly puts student work on display in the hallway next to her room. There is currently a group of posters up about the duties of a citizen. They talk about voting and jury duty and such. One of the posters is really funny to me because the kid meant one thing, but I read something completely different. The poster is right in front of the water fountain. I laugh every time I take a drink.

While I was preparing my morning Carnation Instant Breakfast, I noticed a strange noise… a drippy noise. At first I thought it might be rain or something. Max noticed it, too, and tracked it to the back of the refrigerator. Now that I was listening, I heard something inside the freezer, too. I opened it and saw water dripping in the bottom and in back.
Since it was time to go to school, I just turned off the water supply to the ice maker and left. So now it sits. I’m afraid to turn the water on again because I don’t know what’s wrong, but now I don’t have any cold water in my kitchen sink. I’ll look at it this weekend and see if I can find any place where a water line is clogged with ice or something. I hope it’s not a big deal.
At least I caught it before the kitchen floor got waterlogged and the refrigerator fell through to the basement.

Ever since I first visited him, I’ve wanted to go back to the massage therapist I went to on my birthday. I have hesitated because either my back didn’t hurt or I didn’t remember to call. I finally decided to just do it. I made an appointment. It was last night.
It was really good. It wasn’t like any massage I’ve had before. I would describe it as not so much a back rub. It was more like he was pressing. He used the heels of his hands and his elbows a lot. At one point, he found a place in my lower back that made both sciatic nerves light up with pain. It was like my back and legs were on fire, then blissfully cool. I fought against going to sleep, but I think I may have dozed for part of it. Dang. That seems like a waste of money.
When it was all over, my chest felt weird. It was like I had taken a decongestant or something. I went home, relaxed a little, and went to bed. It was a really good night’s sleep. I woke up thinking my alarm was about to go off, and it was only 1:30. I love it when that happens.
