I went in to school yesterday. I had left in such a hurry last Tuesday, I really needed to get my things straightened up. I also had some grading and other work to do. I went right from church to school. I find that doing work dressed in a suit and tie feels different.
I was at school for a while. Long enough to visit the bathroom twice. Both times, I left with spiderweb wrapped around my head. I looked for visible webs, but couldn’t find any. I didn’t see any spiders either. Good thing I don’t have hair like that lady in the story who teased her hair and then had a nest of spiders living in it.

When I got home, I finally played my new Xbox game a little. The story line is good, but the language and content is surprisingly and unnecessarily crude. I regret telling my students I intended to play this game.

My visiting family members all made it back to Seward safely. My mom was sick to her stomach since the time she woke up, and the kids had to sit still for hours in airplanes and the car, and my dad almost didn’t make the connecting flight, but it all worked out in the end. I’m glad they’re safe, but I miss them already.
I had gotten a little behind on my TV watching, so I spent the morning watching DVR-ed shows. I took a break to get a memory card for my camera. They were still on sale at Best Buy. I got a card that holds 800+ pictures for $10. Pretty good. I also went to Lowe’s and got birdseed.
When I returned home, I watched more TV. I’m finally caught up. Fortunately, Thanksgiving disrupted some of my regularly scheduled programs, cutting three hours away from my DVR list. Whew!
Today, it’s back to work at school. If there’s any free time, maybe I’ll just watch TV or something. Ha!

On Thanksgiving Day, we got a paper so we could browse the Black Friday specials. I was looking for a camera because I had dropped my regular pocket camera. There were some good deals out there, but they fell into two categories:
1) The Black Friday price was exactly the same as prices I could find all over the internet.
2) The camera that was being offered at a cheap price had some serious complaints against it in online reviews.
There was a camera being offered at Sears that was in neither category. It was $20 cheaper than the internet, and the complaints against it were that its pictures weren’t as good as an SLR camera and that the paint chipped off of it too easily. I can deal with those problems. It is a Canon Powershot SD780 IS.
Harold, Beth, and I snuck out of the house yesterday morning and went to two places. First we stopped at Modell’s Sporting Goods store, where Harold got some shirts. Then we went to White Marsh Mall. I went to Sears and got my camera. Harold and Beth went to Macy’s and got some clothes for Tara and Tim.
The camera I got is freakishly small. It’s the size of a deck of cards. It is also red. That’s the only color they had. The check-out guy asked for my phone number. I did what I always do: I gave him my number, but with the last digit changed. A name popped up on the screen and an address from Lansing, Michigan. He asked me if it was right. I said I didn’t know what that was. He proceeded to ask me for my name and address. I asked if it was necessary. He said I could always just give him bogus information. You mean like my phone number?, I asked in my head. Instead, I gave him all correct information. At least they don’t have my real phone number.

It didn’t come with a memory card, so I have to get that today. That’s okay, because I also need some birdseed.

It was a great Thanksgiving. We put the giant turkey in the oven to slowly cook overnight. In the morning, the house was filled with its delicious aroma. After church, we got everything ready for the wonderful meal. The turkey meat completely filled the giant platter. Everyone snitched samples.

I got to use my new gravy ladle that my mom brought from Seward. She got it from Et Cetera, a thrift store run by Mennonites. The ladle did a mennontastic job of scooping out gravy!

After dinner, as is our custom, we all went to sleep. Tim resisted for a long time, but finally gave in. He had to sleep. It’s in his genes.

Yesterday was a day of fun. First, we slept in. I didn’t wake up until 7:30am. Awesome!
Next we went to IKEA. We rode in the ginormous car my parents rented. It’s a Tahoe. It has a way-back seat, and Tara and Tim love to ride in it.

We shopped and ate Swedish meatballs and shopped some more. On the way home, Tara and Tim got some sleep.

Later, in the evening, we went to Crackpot Restaurant for dinner. Mom got a couple crabs. Tim helped pound them with the hammer.
