We stayed in a hotel last night. My family likes to do this between Christmas and New Year’s. It’s fun for the kids to go swimming, and it’s fun for the adults to stay in a hotel. To add to the excitement, there was a Nebraska football game. They won 33 to 0. Go Huskers!
We stayed on the seventh floor. It’s fun to be in a highrise. We were settling in just as the sun was setting. See, Nebraska does have urban landscapes:

Curt had some gift certificates to the hotel restaurant. We helped him use them. I ordered calamari. It was the REAL kind. I could hardly believe it. But if the tentacles didn’t convince me, biting down on a beak sure did. I eat calamari all the time, and it’s the first beak I’ve encountered. How exciting!

Yesterday I was in Lincoln most of the day. My niece Rachel had a basketball game, so I went to watch it. It was a fun game. They won. It was the coach’s 100th win. We cheered and waved signs that said “100″. I learned that my new camera doesn’t take very good pictures in a gym setting. Here’s one of my best shots: it’s dark and blurry.

After the ball game, we had lunch, then I went with Lauren to be her moral support as she got her first massage. I got an massage too. It was very difficult to be such a good friend and get a massage with her, but somehow I managed. The setting was a health club. It was different than any massage place I’ve been. The sign on the back of the door made me laugh, so I took a picture of it.

It was a good massage. I like my guy in Baltimore better though. Read Lauren’s report HERE.
I only brought half as many clothes as I needed for this trip. I know I can always do a load of wash while I’m here. To save time, I decided to wash everything together instead of separating whites and colors and such. I could wash them all in cold and everything would be okay, right? So of course I got some sort of dark stains on the new shirt I got for Christmas. Then I laid it out on a storage trunk and got rust stains on it. Dang it.
I went to Walmart looking for a stain remover. All my first choices said something like: “no stain remover will remove rust stains”. Dang. Then I saw the Rit products. I had used these when I accidentally dyed all my whites pink. They really worked then, so would they work now? I got two different kinds to try.

Did they work? YES! I only used the “White Wash” product. I’ll leave the “Color Remover” box here for Lauren to use or throw away or whatever.

It was another good day in Seward yesterday: good church, good brunch afterward, a little nap on the couch while Tim kept poking me and saying: “Don’t sleep! People are supposed to sleep in beds!” We finished the day by going to Red Lobster. Mmm… Cheesy biscuits…
Lloyd and Lauren are still in Missouri, so I was alone at their house. I was kind of excited to be going to bed earlier, since I’ve had so many late nights lately. I got ready for bed and started reading my book.
Then the noises started.
Now, I have an old house, so I’m used to noises, but the noises last night were awful. In the hallway outside my bedroom, there were creaks and cracks that sounded exactly like someone was walking around. In fact, I got up several times to check. All I saw was the startling and scary human-shaped lump of ties on the banister. After a while, I put the book down and just tried to sleep. That’s when I heard something moving in the walls next to my bed. I can deal with squirrels or bats or whatever, so I tried sleeping some more. *beep* *beep* *beep* The oven started beeping. By now it was well past midnight. I stumbled down the stairs past the scary lump of ties and laid on the kitchen floor to yank on the stove cord. It wouldn’t come out of the outlet, but at least the beeping stopped.
I think I fell asleep finally around 2am. I might need to nap sometime today. Maybe I’ll do it somewhere that doesn’t bother Tim so much.

Yesterday Lloyd and Lauren left for Missouri. They’re visiting Lloyd’s family for the weekend.

After watching A Christmas Story, I got showered and headed over to Harold and Beth’s, where we worked on a puzzle for a while. When dinner time came, we decided we’d go to some restaurant. We decided whatever place was open was the place we’d eat. RO’s bar was open. They have good food and good prices. It was packed wall-to-wall. I think other people had our idea too. It was Saturday: prime rib night. AWESOME! Nebraska beef!
