Unexpectedly Normal

I was braced for a terrible travel experience yesterday. I was traveling at night and it was winter and I was going through Chicago and I only had an hour between flights. It was a recipe for disaster.

My flight from Lincoln was delayed in taking off. We left almost 20 minutes late. The take off was smooth, and there was no turbulence. The landing was trouble-free. I looked at my watch – we were on time!

In Chicago, I stopped at the food court for a salad. It had ham, cheese, turkey, eggs, and tomatoes on it. Mmm… It was good. My assigned seat for the next flight was row 24 – the second from the back. I was a little worried about airsickness, so I asked at the gate if I could move up at all. I got row 11 – an exit row. Nice! The take off was smooth, and there was no turbulence. The landing was wobbly. It felt like there were bad crosswinds or something. I was glad when we arrived at midnight.

We all headed down for baggage claim. There was already an airplane full of people there. We joined them. Shortly, another airplane full of people came down. I think there was only one baggage crew on duty, and the planes kept coming in every 20 minutes. It was 1am by the time I got my suitcase.

Yikes! Late night!

So besides the late baggage, nothing happened. No crazy security troubles, no missed connections, no sickening turbulence. I was all prepared to rant. Am I disappointed? Not a bit.

An hour to get your luggage? That’s not fun. It’s worth it though, since you arrived safe and sound.

That tall guy has shifty eyes, don’t you think?

I’m wondering about the blurry red T-shirt guy. What’s his hurry?

Welcome home! And yea, an hour wait for luggage stinks…did you fall asleep while waiting? And does this mean that O’Hare is back in your good graces?

Well, poop. I was all set for drama, daggumit! But yea for you – the uneventful travel is becoming a rarity for you; hope you enjoyed every nanosecond of it. See you in less than 37 hours, I reckon…if we both actually elect to go in to work on Monday; it won’t be easy after all this time off, I’m sure.
