A Refreshing Diversion

I had an unusual Monday yesterday. First of all, I was off of work because it was MLK Day. I would normally have spent the day doing nothing, but Denis was getting a cortisone shot in his lumbar spine and the doctor said he wasn’t allowed to drive himself home, so I took him. His appointment was in downtown Baltimore and lasted about two hours. While he was getting shot, I went to the Inner Harbor.

It was a ten minute walk from the hospital to the harbor. The weather was beautifully warm. I spent most of the time shopping. I looked around in Urban Outfitters, but I was too chicken to try on a top hat at the hat shop. I had mall pizza for lunch, got some bubble tea, then went to the Barnes and Noble that’s occupying an old power plant building. After buying an issue of The Economist magazine, I returned to the hospital and sat in the waiting area for Denis to come out. He was later than I thought, so I got a 30 minute nap. It was awesome.

I felt all knowledgeable and local as I mingled with the tourists.

Yay for a day in the sunshine! All that light should help with your droopiness, right?

(Sorry about the shot Denis…I’m supposed to get one of them to…I hope yours works! Let us know)

Wow – that sky is incredible! You should take photos for Baltimore’s tourism board.

I just have to say – cortisone shot in your spine? Double ouch! Denis, what is going on?

You’re just saying that because we haven’t seen the sky in a few weeks.

What’s bubble tea? That sounds like it would tickle your nose.

Why does it seem you are so devil-may-care through all this? (“Cuz I’m not the one having the injection?”) I don’t see words that indicated concern for someone undergoing a potentially-painful procedure – what sort of friend/roommate are you anywho?? (“One who appreciates a beautiful day at the Inner Harbor however he can get one?”) Remind me not to call you if I ever want a sympathetic driver to or from a doctor or hospital after a “procedure”…and I do hope Denis has some mobility and greater comfort now!
