January hasn’t been getting any better. Catching a random glimpse of primroses here and there hasn’t seemed to be enough, so I decided to try light therapy again. I did this many years ago, but stopped because I started using prescriptions to deal with my Seasonal Affective Disorder. After discovering that my symptoms were being exaggerated because my old truck was exhausting into the cab and poisoning me, I got a new truck. Things were better. I stopped the prescriptions.
But this year seems to be particularly hard again. I’ll try the lights in the mornings for a while. They make it hard to see the computer screen and they’re kind of hot, but if they make me feel better and get myself a little more organized during the day, it’s worth it.
The information all says to get at least 2500 lux of light. A lux is one lumen at a distance of one meter. The two light bulbs I’m using are 1490 lumens each, and I’m at less than a meter, so I figure I must be getting the minimum required lux. Plus, maybe I’ll get a nice tan!
Max jumps into the tub a lot. He used to go in automatically after I showered. I think he liked the humid warmness. But he also jumps in even when there is no shower water there. Maybe he just likes the high walls. Maybe he likes the self-cleaning aspect of a bathtub. Whatever the case, I thought it would be fun to give him a little water and see what he did with it. He was funny.
I was all excited to go to the World of Pets Expo yesterday. I’ve been there a couple times now. It’s always a fun day. I got ready quickly (for a Saturday), and rushed off to the fairgrounds. When I got there, I was a bit confused. I saw lots of horse trailers and people walking around in farm clothes. When I got to the ticket booth, I understood: it said Horse World Expo. I had arrived a whole week early. Dang it!
I went back home and did nothing for the rest of the day. What would compare to the World of Pets Expo? Feeling a little like a slug around evening time, I went to Clementine Restaurant for dinner. What a delicious diversion from TV. They were having some special fundraiser thing with their vodka, so I had a vodka/tea/vermouth/bitters concoction they make. It was awesome. I also had a strip steak. I couldn’t believe the flavor. I chewed many pieces with my eyes closed. Mmm…
Last night was our school’s “Basket Bingo” night. It’s a Bingo event where all the prizes are things that women would like stuffed into Longaberger baskets or bags whose name I can’t remember Vera Bradley bags. I sat at a table with several of my co-workers. It was the first time I’d ever played real Bingo. The “boards” are all thin newsprint-type paper. People mark numbers with a “dauber”. Michele lent me one of hers. Playing Bingo was fun at first, then stressful, then frustrating, then fun again. Apparently, you’re supposed to yell in disgust when someone else wins. That was my favorite part.
There were three special games where we were trying to make a shape. I got really close to making an “S”, but B-10 eluded me.
The wild eyebrow hairs continue to come. Last time I mentioned one, I shortly afterward pulled it out. Now I have two at the same time. I keep wetting them and rubbing them and trying to encourage them to lie flat, but they continue to stick out. I hesitate to pull them out because it’s two this time. When do I draw the line? When is it better to have crazy eyebrows than no eyebrows at all?
The little cleaning brush that came with my electric shaver does a pretty good job getting my eyebrows to go in the same direction. I’ve used it in the morning when I notice the crazy hairs. Do I carry that in my pocket? Do I become a compulsive eyebrow brusher?
