I went to the grocery store yesterday to get ingredients for a recipe. It called for pork and beans. I stood in the bean aisle for quite a while searching. I needed four one-pound cans. Nothing like that existed. There were 15 ounce cans of pork and beans, and there were seven pound cans of pork and beans. The rest of the beans were called “baked beans” or “beans with bacon” or “beans with chipotle salsa”. Where the heck were the pork and beans? I just got some 15 ounce cans. I hope it’s okay that I’m four ounces short on the pork and beans.
I also got an indulgence while at the grocery store: I bought cut flowers. I had to get some oriental lilies. I LOVE them. Their smell makes me happy. Their price usually puts a quash on the whole thing, but yesterday I didn’t care. They were worth their eight dollars, by golly! They’ll last for a week or so. And one dollar per day isn’t so bad.

Sorry I didn’t know the answer to your question – I’m not a big beans fan. I’ll eat them, but not enjoy them.
What recipe needs four cans of beans? Grease baking pan with one can of beans. Carefully pour in one can of beans. Layer on one can of beans. Finally, sprinkle with one-half can of beans. Bake for one hour. Garnish with remaining beans.
Haha! I laughed out loud!
The recipe is called “Calico Beans”, and we MS teachers are each making double recipes for school so we can feed the whole faculty and staff tomorrow for Lutheran Schools Week.
I keep joking with Debbie who gave the recipe to us. I ask, “Can you use other cat meat besides calico?” Hehe…
HA! You should post that recipe as is somewhere and see what responses you get. You funny Lauren!
(And Lloyd — I like you’re new line! I’m going to say it today to people — I can’t wait to see their reactions. ‘Heh that Ruth, she’s 4 ozs. short of a full bean recipe. HA!)
Brad Royuk: 4 ounces of beans short of a full recipe.
4 lbs. of beans??? lbs??? Those flowers aren’t an indulgence…they’re a neccessity!
HA! Second LOL from today’s posting – good job, Pegster!
