Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Garden in May

I spent some time working in the garden yesterday. I love being out there.

I had gotten some petunias last weekend, but I didn’t have time to plant them. Then it was cold and rainy all week. So yesterday they finally got planted. Since I was already planting them, I decided to clean up the garden beds I was putting them in. And since I walked through the gate to dispose of weeds, I decided to clean up the gate area a little. And since the gate is next to the pond, I decided to clean the pond. It was a great day in the garden.

I ate the first strawberry of the season. I didn’t even rinse it. Take that, gross internet movie about washing strawberries in warm soapy water!

It was delicious and sweet.

I made a video walkthrough of my garden in May. I thought it would be nice for my memory archive.

What is that you’re growing between the flagstones?

Ha! I laughed out loud! You are the one always giving me grief about bacteria and stuff, yet you’ll eat a strawberry??

Do you know the movie I’m referring to? I didn’t want to post a link to it because not showing it to people who hadn’t seen it was the nice thing to do.

And I tend to disbelieve it. I think it’s a set-up. I’ve never seen what they show in that movie.

I don’t know the movie – what is it?

        • Brad

You really shouldn’t watch it. What has been seen cannot be unseen. You’ll never eat strawberries again.

If you must, google “why you should wash strawberries before eating them”. It will take you to a Neatorama post. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Having said that, I must repeat again that I’ve never seen what they show in that movie. In fact, I was just at the grocery store and I looked specifically for it on the strawberries there. Nothing. I also looked at the strawberries in my back yard. Nothing.

I thank you for the warning, and I will never watch it.

I wish you would have continued walking just a little farther…to my neglected garden beds….can’t you hear their cries for help? I’m not sure, but I think I hear their whispers referring to me as ‘Mommie Dearest

Beth and Lauren and I watched the video together. Well done. We’re pitching in to buy you a steadicam.

Your yard is COOL. Do you have old ‘before’ shots? It would be cool to do some ‘before’ and ‘after’ comparisons.

      • Brad

Somewhere I have a picture of the yard from when the previous owner still owned the house. The yard was empty, except for a parked car and a clothesline filled with underwear. It’s an awesome picture. I’ll have to track it down.

Your garden is lovely. Really well done.
What was delightful about that video was how excited you got describing elements of it. It was really nice.
Ironically the only thing I could identify of your garden was the one you couldn’t remember.

Ha! I remembered it was a eucalyptus the moment I stopped recording. Dang.

It’s one of my prized plants. It has survived three Maryland winters so far! What? A eucalyptus growing in Maryland? It’s a hardy variety called eucalyptus neglecta. Isn’t that an awesome name? Its common name is almost as good: Omeo Gum.
