Eremurus Squids

I actually got a chance to work in my garden this weekend! I’m glad, too, because I got some eremurus ‘cleopatra’ roots in the mail on Friday. I was so excited, I had to get them in the ground as soon as possible. I will be looking forward to spring all winter long!

Having never grown eremurus plants before, I’m curious to see how the flowers look in real life. I also have never seen their roots before. They look like starfish or squids. Weird. (And a little scary.)

See the squid beak?

Gahhhh!!! I cannot look at that plant! Gahhhhh!!!! *jibblie*

What are you thinking, trying to make more of those……

(I’m eating breakfast in the dark. I’ll try to comment later when I’m not so freaked out.)

Ok, now that the lights are on and I’m rational – those are foxtail lily bulbs! How can something so creepy make something so beautiful? Weird.

You are brave for holding it.

Wow, were those plants invented by H.P. Lovecraft?

    Hehe…those are creepy! Excellent!

But are you sure you’re planting them & not making some sort of warlock’s brew? (heart of bat Lauren could have easily sent you, eye of newt–from your pond, hemlock oil–surely growing in your yard, and lastly eremusus root)

At first glance I thought the title of your post said “Emeritus Squids,” as though these professors of the deep had retired to your garden to draw their pensions.
