Three

Yesterday was another snow day. It took three days: three days for me to get stir-crazy enough to go to school and do some work. And I got a ton of work done. The lesson plans I’ve been working on aren’t fully completed, but the skeleton is in place. I have a skeleton! I also graded papers, though I didn’t finish as much as I had hoped.

We have an open house at school tomorrow, so I did some work toward that as well. Most notably, I changed the student work on my classroom wall. I’ve left the stained glass designs up for longer than ever before. They’re just so pretty… it’s hard to take them down. I’ve replaced them with an interactive display. After reading about Samson and his riddle about honey in a lion carcass, I had the seventh graders write riddles about Old Testament people we’ve studied so far. The answers to the riddles are under little flaps of paper that people can lift and look under. It’s fun!

Hearty congratulations on your successful work day! [Mine was Wednesday (between bands of precipitation), leaving Thursday thru Sunday for less-brain-draining activities and greater appreciation of weather events.] LOVE the student work on your wall, as always. You do excel at that – sharing what your kiddos have generated on a regular basis. I always think that’s a sign of a healthy classroom environment.

[This Open House I have nada to put up for potential parents to ogle and ask about. This saddens me. I guess could lay out the kimchi we’re making in biology with the lab write-ups and data tables so far on temp and pH – that could be interesting (…and stinky, leaving a great impression on visitors). I could run “Who Killed the Electric Car? DVD we’ll be seeing soon in Earth Science in the background – I need to review it again before I show it anyway. Better make up my mind before Sunday – heck, I haven’t even cleaned the chalkboard in weeks! Bad classroom teacher…]

I want to read some riddles! That is such a good idea.

I see you have stuck with the toilet-paper-as-tissues experiment. Have they used any ’tissues’ or are they just sniffing and using their sleeves.

The stained glass art work is amazing! They do a great job with that!

And I’m with Lauren, lets hear some of the kids riddles!

(I wish I knew you were at school all day yesterday…I would have hated you less.)
