I used to really like Trix cereal. They were multi-colored balls of fruity goodness. But then they changed it. They made it into little fruit shapes. They might have thought it was the same, but it wasn’t. It tasted completely different. I don’t like it when manufacturers mess with my food. Do you remember when Cocoa Puffs were coated with white sugar? They were awesome! But then they gave them a “new chocolaty coating” which diminished their flavor. (They must have removed the MSG and trans fats)
Anyway, I was in the cereal aisle the other day, and saw that the Trix for sale were round. Round, I tell you! I snatched up a box and bought it. I’m sorry to say they still don’t taste like they used to. There’s something different about the texture. (They must have removed the MSG and trans fats) They’re not inedible – I’ll finish the box. But they won’t be part of my regular cereal rotation.
Here’s the really weird part: I didn’t look very closely at this box when I grabbed it, but it appears to be a Halloween edition of Trix. There are bats on the front and a jack-o-lantern cutout on the back. The expiration date is August 2011, so they aren’t expired, but… Halloween?
Maybe it’s because of the ‘Trix’ (or treats) angle. Whatever the reason, the creepy graveyard fence in the background is really making me rethink that silly rabbit’s motives for stealing cereal from kids.
My money is on some sort of cereal tie in. The Rabbit is going to get together with Count Chocula and that Boo Berry Ghost character. It will be like when Laverne & Shirley showed up on Happy Days.
That used to really confuse me as a kid. I used to think that the same thing could happen with all shows that were on after each other, and I kept waiting for the Love Boat to dock on Fantasy Island.
Totally get where yer comin’ from, dude!
I say, Is it ever too early to begin the Halloween fun? I answer, No!
(and yes I do remember the Cocoa Puffs with the white coating & they were better! And where have the sugar coated Alphabets gone? Just the Alphabets — no marshmallows)
At least some things are still sacred! I had a bowl of Cocoa Krispies with my breakfast today and they’re as marvelous as I remembered them from youth. By the bottom of the “bowl”, all the milk was chocolatey…and I used 2% milk to make up for any extra sugars or fats….uh-huh…
I loved the other kind of Trix, but I’ve never tried the new one. (Dad doesn’t buy it!) : p
