Anything Goes

Our school musical is happening this weekend. They’re doing “Anything Goes”. It’s a romantic comedy set on a ship in the 1930’s. It’s fast-paced and funny. I went last night. I enjoyed it a lot.

I had never seen this show, but was surprised to find out that I knew some of the songs. The title piece, of course, is quite familiar, but I also knew “I Get a Kick out of You” and “It’s De-Lovely”. The kids (and their directors) did a great job. The set was amazing. They built a huge structure in the middle of the gym. I’m wondering if they might be willing to come re-do my front porch. And the number of people involved in the production is amazing. The director said it was a record for our school. It’s like a third of the student body. Cool!

There was much singing and dancing and silliness. I didn’t even fall asleep, and the play didn’t end until after 10! Good show, people. Good show.

This was the set for the opening scene. They rolled pieces in and out in front of the ship set.

I could use a good musical right about now, so maybe I’ll just start playing them in my head. Hmmmm….. Our Town? Oklahoma? Oklahoma!

The show WAS delightful, delovely, and … delonglong! I wish it was legal for Brad to record a tad and post it here so you could get the whole effect.

As for Oklahoma … great memories for me. 🙂 We did that show our senior year and Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs and Ford truck guy) was one of the leads. Good times.

I would also like to point out that I was grasping at straws when I wrote my first comment and now realize that ‘Our Town’ is not a musical. Oops.

[Peggy…why did I blush when I read your post about Mr. Jackson?……]

I’ll second everything said above. We are very blessed with talented students, tireless staff (I’m sure they’re all operating on auto-pilot by now), generous parents and supporters (who might actually come work on your porch if you ask them nicely enough and you donate something to the school in their name or something…..), and audience members who appreciate the classic standards like the Australian Bush Song. To which I conclude, “Tweet…tweet…tweet”.

      I meant Hugh Jackman….sheesh!!
