We’re having school today! Yay!
I didn’t get much done yesterday, but I have finally finished a Project I’ve been working on for a while. The light fixtures in my bedroom are made to look like candles. At one point, they were gas lights, but they’ve been converted to electricity. When I moved in, something was wrong with the tubes that covered the inner workings. It led me to remove the tubes, and for many years, the lights have looked like this:
Since I was painting and making things look nice, I decided to finally do something about the light. But I needed new tubes. Toilet paper rolls were too big. I checked the width of wrapping paper tubes; they were just right.
Next, I painted them. It took lots and lots of coats before the small spiral lines disappeared. I made a contraption that held them upright while they dried.
And I finally was able to put the finished product into place. They look nice. The paint is so thick, it’s kind of bumpy and runny. I think it makes the tubes look like wax, kind of giving them a candle effect.
They look awesome! I love getting those small bit important things done. (But I hate to actually start the project!) Way to go!
Love them! Way to be resourceful! You just MacGuyvered all over the place there with the tubes and the contraption, didn’t you?
By the way, if I ever visit you again I’m going to draw a face on that oval in the middle so it looks like Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. You’re welcome in advance.
EHHHXCELLENT!! On both things….Yay for the 1st day of school and…
I too LOVE the candle lights! LOVE!! Hey, you could pretend you live in a spooky, haunted castle now…..Muahhhh!!
There’s a house on Evergreen, we will not go inside,
For that is where the ghosts all live, and skeletons do hide.
Indeed, the runny look of the mulit-coated paint adds authenticity to its faux candle surface. Nicely done, sir…now there’s no chance the flamable paint or the flamable pasteboard tubes will get overheated if the lamps burn too long, is there? (Gloom and doom, that’s me!) ‘Twould be ironic to have something catch fire after all your hard work…..not to mention expensive….but, then, you’d have another project :-/
I considered the possibility of fire, but there were previous covers on the lights and they, too, were painted cardboard. Plus, the light fixtures themselves have cardboard wrapped around the light socket. If they haven’t caught fire in the last seventy years or so, I don’t think they will now.

This episode was on this morning.
Ha! I should have asked the set construction crew for “I Love Lucy” to fix my fixtures. Wait… That might not be possible any more…
