Outlet Adventure

I will be hosting my church dinner group in November. I was looking in my cabinet the other day and realized I don’t have a full set of drinking glasses. I have broken so many that even though I started with more than eight, I only have four left. It wouldn’t be a big deal, but our dinner group always sits at a fancy table with proper things like non-paper plates and drinking glasses that match.

I decided to go to the outlets in Lancaster, PA. It would be a nice drive since the leaves are changing, and I could also look for jeans. I’ve been trying to find some dark jeans that I can wear with my pale blue shirts so I don’t look like I’m wearing coveralls.

On the way there and back, I went through Amish country. I was even stuck behind a buggy for a while:
I trailed from a distance so I wouldn't disturb his horse.

I shopped for jeans first. I always buy Levi’s because other jeans seem to get holes in them too quickly. I like baggy jeans. That is a difficult thing to find in our current skinny jeans culture. There is a model called 569 that I first got in 2008. I like how they fit, so I looked for them. I found them, but there were no dark ones. Dang. The guy in the store recommended 559’s, which he said were almost identical. They were pretty loose, but they were no 569’s. My issue is the thighs. The thighs have to be loose, or my leg hair gets bent. It can really hurt by the end of a jeans-wearing day. I decided to try the next biggest waist size. It was loose around my waist, so I’ll always have to wear a belt, but the thigh area was blessedly loose. Yay! I got them. At size 36, they are the biggest pants I’ve bought so far.

Next, I went to a kitchen supply store. They had a HUGE selection of glasses. I wanted big ones. I drink a lot when I eat – a bite of food, a drink of water, a bite of food, a drink of water. Fortunately, I did find some big glasses. And they’re pretty, too. Yay! I got fourteen of them, because that’s what would fit into the handheld shopping basket thingy. Hopefully it will be a while before I have less than a set of eight again.

Dark and sparkly.

In the evening, I went to dinner with my church dinner group at someone else’s house. When I used the bathroom, I saw the most amazing nightlight ever, and had to take a picture. Behold:
A sparkly unicorn!

Holy cow – your day was full of magical wonderfulness! I am in awe of that nightlight, but I’m even more in awe of how they wrapped the outlet in perfectly-matched wallpaper. That must have been a pretty cool house.

I’m happy about your glasses, but it would have been pretty funny to have a dinner with paper plates and mason jars for glasses. You would have been the dinner they talked about for years to come! 😉

Her house is amazing. It’s elegant sixties decor. It’s like being in a James Bond movie. It’s not a retro thing – it’s her taste in decor. She’s 93 and must’ve really liked sixties styling.

Is she the one who offers highballs to her guests? And brings whishey minatures in her purse when vistiting others? She sounds like an amazing, fun lady! I hope I’m as cool at 93!

Hehe… Yes, she is the same lady.

Naturally, you noticed the gold and sparkly nightlight – you’re Brad! Did you at least ask where you could go get one for your own bathroom she bought it? Glad decorating in that decade works for her. I’m in the decade now that she would have been during the 60’s, and there’s not much from that era that appeals to me, decorating-wise. [Neither am I a modern furniture gal…nor a colonial style one…I don’t think they have a name for “give me a wing chair with good back support and a foot rest that pops up when I lean back”, do they? If they did, that’s be me.]
